Suggestion
The Turbo factory manual doesn't give a fluid temp or drain time for the manual transmission fluid change but my WAG is if the fluid is hot then 20 minutes ought to be enough.

Not sure what you are asking, but I won't use any of the above.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was recommended to use Mobil 1 75w90 for the 6spd tranny/diff and the front diff as well.
Is this OEM? If it's not, what is the OEM oil they use?
2.7L in the rear and 1.5 in the front. I'll buy 5L of it at about 20$ a pop CAD.
It will be a DIY, fairly straight forward. I plan on letting it drain for about 20 min, or should I wait a little longer?
It's going to come out very hot!!
My info is for the 911 (996) Turbo and 911 (996) GT2 with 6-speed G96/50, G96/88 transmissions and front axle drive Z96/00 and it is for reference only. If I had the info for your car of course I'd supply it.
Model years 2001 up to 2005. (Oh, the document I have is dated Nov 5. 2008.)
First a notice: "Use of unapproved ATF or transmission oil: Excessive wear and damage to the transmission parts. Reduced service life. => Only use the ATF and transmission oils listed below when topping up or changing ATF or transmission oil."
Transmission oil SAE 75w-90 for manual transmission, front axle drive (all wheel drive).
000.043.204.20 Mobil (Mobilube PTX).
000.043.204.19 Shell (Transaxle)
999.917.546.00 Shell (Transaxle)
The two Shell fluids are the same fluid they have different part numbers because they come in different size containers: 20 liters and 1 liter is my info.
The Turbo factory manual doesn't give a fluid temp or drain time for the manual transmission fluid change but my WAG is if the fluid is hot then 20 minutes ought to be enough.
But if at the end of 20 minutes you see a stream of transmission oil still flowing let the transmission oil drain longer.
The concern is to drain as much oil out to get very close to the 3 liter refill amount so when one dumps in 3 liters of transmssion fluid the transmission doesn't end up overfilled with transmission fluid.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Macster,
My car is a 2003 Carrera 4S. I'm looking for information in regards to that vehicle.
Also, I am getting mixed results if they both have a magnetic drain plug. I am leaning towards a yes. Can anyone confirm this?
The info for a Carrera is 2.7l of transmission fluid with of course no amount of fluid given for the front diff.
The instructions simply refer one to the parts catalog for the car for the fluids.
A visit to your local Porsche dealer parts counter should turn up this info.
The change steps are as best I can tell the same.
Don't know about the magnetic drain plug.
Sometimes the plug has a magnet in it but more often when a transmission is built a magnet is placed inside the cases down on the bottom of the case either bolted down to a threaded boss or held in place with expoxy or by even simpler methods.
If the drain plug is magnetic you'll know it when you remove it.
If you need to know before you remove the plug (why?) you might see if a small piece of steel (a small length of thin steel wire for example) is attracted to the drain plug. It has been awhile since I needed any but my local hardware store used to sell piano wire in various gages. Consider getting a foot of thin wire that is still stiff enough to remain relatively horizontal and use it like a divining rod to try to spot any areas of magnetism at the plug or even around the bottom or sides of the case. A cheap pocket compass might work as well.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Sincerely,
Macster.
Mobil 1 75W90 is not OEM. I spoke to Mobil directly about this in the past and they confirmed that it was not the same formulation as 000.043.204.20 Mobil (Mobilube PTX). In the end I sucked it up and bought the fluid from the dealer to avoid future issues. 111k miles on the clock and still going strong...

Macster listed the OEM fluids above. Mobil informed me that the Mobilube wasn't available in the states so I just went to the dealer. No point in risking anything for the small cost over a lot of miles.
Macster,
I noticed it is recommended to use the mobilube PTX. but my indy is saying they use the Mobil 75W90 LS.
Does anyone know if the LS is acceptable?
Not it is not acceptable. That is junk. Use either the factory stuff from the dealer or Mobil Delvac 75W-90 (

).
That's complete BS. I bought a 20L drum for about $400 shipped to my house from Suncoast Porsche. I can also buy it by the liter if I bring in a container to my dealer and they just charge me 1/20 the cost of the drum per liter I buy.
Winner winner chicken dinner! I use nothing but Delvac in my cars and have been for years (Turbo, GT3, Spec Boxster, etc, etc, etc).
