Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use also' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean brush and thins the paint' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I've used factory touch up with excellent results.

Clean the chip with rubbing alcohol, fill in with paint, some light wet sanding and polishing and you can't tell it was ever repaired.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im looking for a 1 or 2 step touch up to match Black 041 to address some small stone chips. I have seen Porsche sells a small one part # 911 095 932 20 041. Has anyone used anything else successfully? Thanks in advance.
I've used factory touch up with excellent results. Clean the chip with rubbing alcohol, fill in with paint, some light wet sanding and polishing and you can't tell it was ever repaired.
I've had good results with DR. COLORCHIP as well. The problem is that it doesn't really "fill" chips - it colors them very well but doesn't fill. To really make it a good job, you need to fill the chips with clear after doing the COLORCHIP treatment.
I've seen some people do multiple coats with DrColorchip to get it raised up to flush with the rest of the paint. I haven't tried this yet.
Not what I'd recommend for small rock chips. It won't be cheap + you have to mix a hardener with both the base and clear. In super small batches that can get tricky to get it right and produce a lot of waste. After that, you'll need to wet sand and polish. This will probably give you the best results, but its a lot more effort. I considered this but opted to give dr colorchip a shot instead.
I consider the small chips the patina of a life well lived and loved. I don't know how much they bother you. obviously some, or you wouldn't be looking for recommendations. Frankly, I have better things to do than fix all the chips of life on my 99 141K mile daily driver. People look at my car and just go Wow..just Wow. Nobody has ever commented on the small chips.
I have had TERRIBLE results, probably because I'm a crap painter. However, even using ridiculously small instruments like needles, I still get too much paint into the chips. Every one I've done looks dreadful.
Hopefully you suck at the practice far less than I do.
toothpicks work well but you dont want to get as much as a drop on the end of a pick, and put the amount in the center of the chip.
No you dont add hardner or anything to base coat. A 1/2 pt of base is around the $50 range, but it is the right color.
Touchup paints like DrC are all single stage paints, they are like single stage acrylic enamels so they produce a complete paint coat. I always have my base colors around because I always end up painting some small part or doing some touchup on every car I own. Its alot more flexable that just having a ounce of touchup.
Go to hobby store and get a fine point brush. Buy a pint of lacquer thinner, using the fine point brush dip in paint (041) and build it up over multiple "fills". it will dry quickly. little practice and you can make it flush, With a clean cloth and little thinner on it, you can wipe it flush if it bubbles up with to much paint. 2 stage BC/CC same way but flush the clear..
some body supply shops sell a small block paint file (approx 1 Sq inch in size with ultra fine file teeth) you hold flat and drag it across dried paint humps, use no force pushing down, perfect for this but made for small runs in repaint.
Thinner clean the brush and thins the paint when needed.
Thanks guys. Appreciate all the suggestions. I initially thought dr color chip. But my detailer said since the paint is so soft I would likely fix it but mess up the surrounding areas. Anyway I will probably just get the factory touch up and give it a shot. I'll keep you posted.
You're right, it's been at least 10 years since I've painted a car and my memory is a little rusty. As someone else mentioned, you thin the base coat before spraying, that's what I was remembering. I believe a hardener is required for clear but I could be wrong. The paint store will be able to tell you definitively.
As for OPs comments about dr colorchip messing up the surrounding area - that's not the case. The big selling point of DrC is that it's clear coat safe. You smear it into the chip, wait a few minutes and then wipe with the solution they send. It removes everything from the higher points and leaves the paint in the chip. I put it all over the front bumper on my wife's Jeep and then wiped it off no problem (just a bit of elbow grease).
There is a big PCA event here this weekend, so I'm going to repair some chips on my 996 today in preparation. I'll post the results.
