Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that contain suggestions

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use lever' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use lever' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

First of all, I never even knew I had them...they never came up in the 2 years that I've owned it. It's a 2002 Carrera 4 cabriolet.
So I jump in the car to go to work, start to put the top down and it stops going down because the roll bars are in the way and they won't go back in their holes.
How do I make them go back down?
tia,
leo
First, you'll have to get someone to help you roll the car back over so it sits on all four wheels...
Seriously, in the owner's manual, there's a process for doing it. requires using a lever from the tool kit. With the top up, it might be difficult so you may try getting the top half way down or as far as it goes, then carefully lifting the rear of the top (under the window) to get at the switch. When you retract the top, you're able to lift the bottom up. This should give you enough access to rectify the situation.
Good luck. Take a photo before to share. I've never seen mine go up (2001 Cab).
More details please. When did they go up? Were you driving? In the car? Did a gremlin visit your garage overnight?
Also, Welcome to Rennlist. How about sharing some pictures of you ride? (with the rollbars up!)
The roll bars are totally analog, and are held down a ratchet pawl that can be tripped by something as simple as "getting air". When the pawl lifts up, the roll bars have springs that make them extend and then lock in the extended position.
I have had mine pop once when I went over a rise in the road too fast and went airborne. The rollbars deployed on the way down.
The instructions in the owners manual are easy to follow to get them retracted.
Thanks everyone! I got the roll bars down. I think they must have popped up when I hit a railroad crossing too hard and fast the other day...
If any of you have ever been to Terre Haute, you know that railroad tracks are everywhere and are the bain of Porsche owners, lol.
That is a great picture by Orient Express - I had never seen them out.
Leo...what worries me is how do I know they'll pop out when I really need them to pop out. Mine are still there (2001 Cab) , but in a weird way was hoping it was like an airbag, but the air comments make sense. I assume it is some type of level that if the car is not at a leveled position then they would deploy.
