Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

34 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know how hard or about how much to get a dark blue wing painted silver? Or would I be better off to wrap it?

POST 2Original post

I'd expect a few hundred bucks at any reputable paint shop. A black matte wrap would be kinda neat to match the wheels though.

I just had my wing painted silver, it was the seal grey prior and it cost me about $350 at a collision repair shop nearby...lifetime warranty and they did a great job Edit: its also the mkii gt3 wing btw

POST 4Original post

Recently Ive been debabting to vinyl wrap my silver 911 either gloss black or glass white and looking at this particular wing I am beyond stumped as to how shops would wrap it...I have lots of experience vinyl wrapping cars btw but never had to deal with wings

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pictures of the wing? Any mod required to fit?

POST 6Original post

the only wings anywhere near a narrow body C2 should be the messy kind that you eat

POST 7Original post

Forget wrapping a Taco wing if that is what you're going with. That is gonna be very tricky to have it come out 100% clean. Painting around me is around $300 avg based on quite a few estimates. They may have to shoot a sealer coat for a big paint change going from dark to light though. Every shop will be different in how they approach this.

I know, I know. I go back and forth on this one. Ya, I have no experience with wrapping so didn't know if it was an issue or not. $300 seems to be pretty reasonable. And for whatever reason, I really don't like how the taco wing looks. To me, the GT3 has the best looking Porsche wing.

POST 9Original post

it seems to me that $350 to paint a wing/rear lid is too cheap - a good shop will properly strip it/prep sand and then paint - no way $350 is gonna cover that - i'd guess 600-$700 do get er done right with excellent color match

King's Hardware in Ballard has a special every Tuesday for 27cent wings. Sooo good. I made myself sad :-(

Well we know you have a thing for alterations so I suppose it should be expected... You know that the first GT3 had the Taco right? The GT3 was first introduced as part of the 996 lineup and was originally only available outside the US (EU only?). It wasn't until the facelift that you could get a GT3 in the US which at that point had the ugly ping pong paddle headlights and breakfast bar wing. The original GT3:

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Anyone know of a good way to adapt this wing to a 996?

POST 17Original post

Owning a GT3 is the only acceptable reason to have that hideous taco!

I was just kidding!!!!! Jeesh..... This is the wing I think is the sexiest

POST 19Original post

I think Slakker is going crazy. Or he is running out of people to disagree with on the internet.

POST 20Original post

These should fit with very few mods: Or, you might just want to keep the car stock, and go with these instead, if you really want wings:

What fun is it if you can't troll your home forum every now and then. The STI wing was funny s***!

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-ma...k-2-996-a.html So tempted to throw in a low ball offer. Except the fact that I don't need it and I love how my car looks as is. I guess the first step towards recovery is admitting you have a problem. That includes shopping the classifieds.

Oh wow, I'm all in on that. I dunno about a wing without the rest of the aero package, especially not the taco. The C4S guys can pull it off because of the aggressive stock fascias, but I don't think a C2 would come together the same way. Maybe a ducktail. The STI wing is a bit on the subtle side, I think.

Heres right after it was painted before I threw the 911 badge on it Also in an attempt to gain more haters...it is a mk2 wing on a narrow body mk1 😁 No modding required

I'm thinking of putting a big blower scoop on the hood. Should I go chrome or body color?

Doesn't work without the rest of the aero IMO. For some reason I personally just don't like silver 996's with aero. The other colors just look better. The 996 design in silver just seems to work plain for me.

Some guys like tacos. Some guys don't. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
