Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
This completes the adaptation of the throttle adjusting unit.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust unit' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust unit' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If it still runs like crap, plug it back in, perform the e-gas calibration and if that doesn't work disconnect the battery to clear the DME, reconnect the battery, do the e-gas calibration again and see how it works.

All else fails, replace with a Bosch or Porsche OE MAF.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just got a new air mass sensor and went out to put it om, swapped it out and now the car want stay running at all and the brief moments that its running its choppy. Its a Bremi air mass, part numbers match the old one. 2001 Carrera Egas.
Is this not just plug and play?
In theory yes...plug and play. Disconnect the MAF wire and see how the car runs. Yes you can run it with the MAF sensor disconnected to test. If it still runs like crap, plug it back in, perform the e-gas calibration and if that doesn't work disconnect the battery to clear the DME, reconnect the battery, do the e-gas calibration again and see how it works. Never heard of a Bremi MAF sensor. All else fails, replace with a Bosch or Porsche OE MAF. Are you getting a CEL? Why did you replace the MAF in the first place? Did you do anything else? Make sure the oil filler cap is on correctly.
This will give you the correct P/N

Try Pelican Parts and Sunset Porsche for price comparison. Our cars are sensitive to the correct MAF sensor.
Oh...I see it on the Pelican Parts list

I replaced mine with a Bosch. Worked perfectly. And one other thing, did you install the correct way? So the air flow goes into the sensor, instead of backwards?
The maf is directional, and the Bosch part is keyed to only fit in the right orientation. Make sure the new sensor is installed facing the correct direction (refer to the old MAF if necessary).
If the new MAF is faulty, it should be throwing codes. If you're seeing "voltage improbable" MAF-related codes, you may have gotten a bad sensor.
To calibrate the electronic throttle:
Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes.
1. Switch the ignition on for 1 minute without starting the engine. Do not actuate accelerator pedal.
2. Switch off ignition for at least 10 seconds. This completes the adaptation of the throttle adjusting unit.
As an aside - I have never, even after installing a new MAF, needed to perform this recalibration.
If you're seeing the MAF improbable voltage codes with the new MAF (assuming you cleared the old codes), revert to the old MAF and see if things get better.
I'm much more inclined to suspect a vacuum leak caused by some of this work than a bad MAF. Stumbling idle and stalling at idle are symptoms of vac leak.
I put the old MAF back on, car fired right up. I cleared the codes (1128, 1130) which I didn't do before swapping. took the old MAF off and put the new one back on. Car fired up and the idle is way smoother than it was with the old one.
Could me not clearing the codes first have caused it not to work properly the first time?
Agree with this. Reason why I asked if he did anything else. Did you pull the air filter box to do this (replace MAF sensor) and so did you crack your oil filler tube? Heat and age destroy it and any movement will cause it to crack creating a huge vacuum leak.
Nice! There's no worse feeling than your car idling like crap and knowing it's probably something you did. Good job not just throwing in the towel and getting the tow to the mechanic like many people do when it comes to the point where troubleshooting is required.
