Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I went from driving a used Datsun 510 to driving new (and used) Porsches.
Leading evidence: 'Use ) porsches' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace plastic bits in window regulators' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Billet jack adapters are out there, but too pricey for me, so I keep using hockey pucks.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Long story short manufacturing was leaving the area and I transistioned to software engineering and it worked out pretty good for me.
So an acquaintance just retired and put well over a $100k into machines for his own private machine shop (lathe, saws etc.). All the equipment is top notch and can be very precise. A few of the machines weigh a ton or so. Anyway, he is playing around, getting to know the machines and learning.
My immediate thought was - what could he make for the 996?
The first thing that came to mind was a shift **** but there must be other stuff.
Any ideas out there?
^ Exactly what I was going to type. Hood and engine bay release levers.
Underdrive pulley...and I bet he could sell billet caps to dress up the ever-popular "orange cap" mod.
Also, jack adapters. Billet jack adapters are out there, but too pricey for me, so I keep using hockey pucks.
So this is a really interesting thread for me. I recently started my own engineering and manufacturing firm. I was going to create a vendor account and ask this very question. A large part of my company is design and manufacturing services, but I really wanted to do what I was passionate about too, motor sport.

Hesitant to go more into detail because I haven't paid for my sponsorship yet, and I could see this being taken the wrong way.
Yeah I was thinking the same. Something that lines up with the factory openings that has a removable cover utilizing a heavy duty replaceable diaphragm.

Years ago I had a machine shop. (I was a journeyman machinist). I made for my car -- at the time a Datsun 510 -- solid sway bar mounting blocks -- out of aluminum -- with Delrin inserts.
I haven't bothered to cast a machinist's eye on the sway bar mounts of my Porsches.
Another possible item would be an oil catch can that would be placed between the AOS and the intake manifold to catch the oil the AOS allows through.
Actually what I wanted to do was not make car parts. Everybody in the world makes these, or wants to. For business reasons I wanted to make alot of parts for some of the many businesses in the area (Silicon Valley, San Jose CA area). And did. Made enough parts to pay for the machinery and then some.
But I wanted to get a product line something to provide a foundation upon which I could then grow the business. I wanted to make "hand made" toys out of nice woods and some brass/aluminum parts -- like my grandfather made for me -- but liabilty scared me off of this. I could picture some kind ripping off a small wheel or something and swallowing it.

The hood release will be heavier than the stock plastic and the latch will be bulkier than the stock stamped steel too. Since the latch is a safety item, I would not venture I to making anything that is safety related. Too much liability. Same goes for lug nuts and so on.
He should make copies of specialty tools that Porsche and others charges an arm and a leg for.
The part we're suggesting are the release levers inside the cabin, not the latch itself. I would venture that an aluminum lever is more durable and less prone to failure than the plastic ones - but I'm willing to sign a waiver absolving the manufacturer in exchange for not having some raggedy-a$$ scuffed levers on my driver-side door sill.
The 986/996 and others have a receiver on the jack points, but no US jacks or jack stands have a matching post. It sucks, because having a mechanical link between the car and the stands would make them much safer.
I'm not sure exactly what equipment he has but it definitely does not included a full CNC machine. He really isn't looking to turn this into a business but it is instead his hobby. I figured I could give him one item to make and see how it goes - starting with something simple like a hood release lever. If it works out maybe he could make more of the same item and make them available at a nominal cost to rennlist members with an interest. A jackpoint adapter looks like it would be a relatively easy project too, easier than a lever. The lever may need to be CNCed or cast.
Ooooo... Oooooo... I have it, pick me, pick me.
