Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Thanks cripple black- I'll check the power steering fluid tonight when I get home.

If you think it might be one of the accessories, remove the serpentine belt and start and run the car for a moment.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

After having my IMS and RMS changed as preventive maintenance I noticed a whining sound that comes and goes, seems to stop when the clutch is depressed. There is no clutch slip, hesitation, and the motor runs great. I have changed the oil since this and nothing weird in the oil- or filter and the sound has not got worse/ better over time.... almost sounds like one of the old VW motors in tone. I did change one of the pulleys because the bearings seized.... I'm going to take it to the shop and have them listen to it- but anyone here with thoughts on what this could be?
Did you do a new clutch when the IMS was done? First guess is throwout bearing.
If you think it might be one of the accessories, remove the serpentine belt and start and run the car for a moment. If you don't hear the sound, you can start identifying which accessory/pulley is to blame.
Years ago, I mistook alternator whine from the stereo as something more serious and spent a solid ten minutes obsessing...hopefully it's something similarly benign.
Concur...clutch release bearing because you said it seems to stop when the clutch is depressed. Should have been replaced. I believe there is an updated version of the clutch release arm and bearing.

I originally planed to have clutch replaced but the shop called me and said they did not recommend it as it did not show any wear on it- said it looked new. I took it out with the windows down and listened closer to it- when the accelerator is let up the sound increases and if I push on it the sound then decreases. Thanks cripple black- I'll check the power steering fluid tonight when I get home.
