Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello fellow RLers Im having a strange issue with my ignition switch / tumbler. When I start the car the key does not return back to the neutral position it stays fully to the right. I can turn it back to the left slightly and all seems normal with the car. Im thinking its the actual tumbler. I have no issues removing or inserting the key. Anyone else ever have this issue? I changed out the ignition switch a couple of years ago.

POST 2Original post

Its the switch not the tumbler. Sounds counterintuitive I know, but that switch has fingers in all kinds of pies and causes weird ****. Like Bermuda Triangle weird ****. Throw some graphite in the key and pop it in. See what happens.

POST 3Original post

I’d replace the whole ignition lock assembly with the updated design. From what I understand, changing only the switch may fix your problem, but only temporarily requiring another switch replacement later. Eventually, the ignition lock may get damaged. Ignition lock will come with a new switch also. Not really much more work to replace the lock assembly.

Thanks Atrox. Order a switch today will give that a shot. Cheap fix.

Good point tomcat! Since the switch is only $10, I'll give that a go. But look to change out the ignition lock in the future.

POST 6Original post

The actual ignition assembly replacement is quite involved so Id agree throwing a cheap switch at it first makes more sense. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...ering_Lock.htm
