To be fair, I had installed the B&N short shifter on the '04, so it is not a straight up comparison.

Are you doing the Huricane PCA run next weekend on the TOD?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
84 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

The Trip
I left the house at 5:15 AM Friday morning.
Drove from Greenville, SC to Huntsville, AL in 6 hours and 15 minutes.
Arrived at the airport (rental drop off point) and dealer picked me up in a Black Panamera with Luxor Beige Full Leather. Sweet car!
Went over the car, paperwork, money changed hands, lunch, etc. and left with a huge grin on my face!
2 hours into the return trip, I am at a stop on IH 75. Huge accident somewhere south of me and all 3 lanes are blocked. It took 35 minutes to go 4 miles!
Since I am not familiar with the area and don't know how far away the accident was from my location, I decided toget off the highway.
New route plotted on secondary roads. Lots of twisty back roads through the hills of northern Georgia. Drive through intermittent rain the last hour ot the trip.
Got home at 10:30 PM. Without the delay and re-route, it should have been 8:30.
Long day and I was very tired but happy.
Initial impressions of the car
What's not to like?
Shifting is smoother than my 2004 C2. To be fair, I had installed the B&N short shifter on the '04, so it is not a straight up comparison.
The bi-xenon lights really "light up the night". I had forgotten how bright they were. Also had them on my '04.
The engine revs more freely than the 996 engine did.
Played with the Navi system. I had taken my Tom Tom with me. The Tom Tom gives a little earlier verbal notification than the Navi. The Navi also calculated a different "re-route" than the Tom Tom.
Overall, love the car! The Sharkwerks By-Pass pipes arrived on Thursday, so they will go on he car this weekend.
Attached are a couple of "dealer" pics. Clear side markers will be added. I will get a few of my own pics to post in the next couple of days.
Awesome! Beautiful! Congrats Tim!! Enjoy... don't forget us 996 weenies...
Have fun with the 997 guys... hahahah!
At least you did not get PDK and become one of those insecure PDK owners who constantly seem to need validation.... ooops... did I type that
Dealer offered $17,800. I sold it to CarMax for $19,000. I paid $24,800 3 years and 3 months ago. Not a bad move..... other than having to drive it for 3+ years.
Tim - I hope that you will be like Ed and not be a slave to the model forums (i.e. just because you have a 997 now doesn't mean you can't slum it here in the 996 section!)
Congrats dude - couldn't have happened to a nicer RL member!
You have to find me to get it back! BTW, you could have at least filled up the gas tank before I took the car. That was really inconsiderate of you!
Thanks, Mother!
What a great thread for me to wake up to! Having known Tim since his early days here and being a fellow North Carolinian, it really sucked to see what he went through over the last several years. Glad to have him back in the Carolinas (even if it is SC
) and even better to see him finally back into the car her DESERVES to be in after all he's been through.
Nicely done Tim!
See you soon???
Thanks, Dell!
Are you doing the Huricane PCA run next weekend on the TOD? If so, I'll see you on Sunday. Since I have to work next Monday (9/12), I can make only the Sunday drive from Blowing Rock to Asheville.
Thanks Mark. That ^ is how I justified (in my mind anyway) getting a 2010!
1. Thanks!
2.
3. Agreed!
4. Not only no, but HELL NO!

I'm very happy for you!
You have certainly proven yourself to be most enthusiastic of the marque, even during your absence of ownership. Thinking to myself if you made "Porsche sounds" while driving the Honda? LOL, I'm certain you did, I know I would have. I have, without thinking, flashed other P drivers while in my Jeep. Once a Porsche aficionado, always a Porsche aficinado, ownership is prefered but not necessary.
Always nice to see fruition of a dream.
Thanks Nick!
Uhmmm.... get closer to you monitor so I can whisper this to you...... about the "Porsche sounds"..... yeah, I did that a time or two million.
Thanks Spender - that's a nice thing you said...
this has to be nominated for thread of the month (or longer) just because it feels SO DAMN GOOD to read!!
Way to go, Tim!
I was noticing the other day that you hadn't posted in a while but now I guess I know why; you've been over at the 997 section!!
Don't forget us lowly 996 owners!
Tim,
You are invaluable to this site and make this place what it is. I respect you very much in putting your family first and taking care of what is important during the past few years. This is the least you can do for yourself. You deserve this and more! Congratulations again and enjoy it in good health.
Dennis, thanks. I appreciate the comments!
Yes, I have been spending most of my Rennlist time on the 997 Forum the last 6 months or so, trying to learn and soak up some 997 info. I have to say, the 996 Forum is more fun because there is a lighter atmosphere here. As far as I am concerned, the 996 Forum will always be "home."
Thanks!
Cos, good to hear from you again! It has been too long. Thanks!
Hope you are doing well. Drop me a PM to let me how things are going.
Thank you for the very kind words. The last 6 or so years have been trying, to say the least. But we have persevered and did not let things get us down for too long. The most important thing about getting knocked down is to get back up again!
Doug,
Thanks!
Actually, until about 3 weeks ago I was also considering some nice 2008 cars, which, as you know, were the last of the 997.1 model. What ultimately convinced me to go with the 997.2 was 1) the nagging potential of an IMS failure, albeit a small chance, and 2) the upgraded suspension, and new DFI 9A1 engine in the 997.2 cars, with NO Intermediate Shaft and 3) the car I bought came with 5 years of CPO warranty.
Spender,
When I read the first few words of you post "I hope that you will be like Ed..." I immediately stopped reading and thought
"WTF? Why the Hell would anyone want me to be like Ed????"
but then I kept reading and realized you meant that in a good way! Sorry ED, but he set it up and I had to finish it!
Seriously, as I posted earlier, I will always consider the 996 Forum to be "home," and I mean that.
Thanks for the kind words!
+1
I test drove a 2009 Carrera S PDK(same 3.8L DFI engine) a couple of years ago and still distinctly remember how QUICKLY that engine revved in 1st and 2nd gears.
I remember thinking to myself, wow; you would really need to pay attention when driving this car with a manual trans, otherwise it would be really easy to hit the rev limiter when accelerating hard.
Enjoy the new car, Tim, and keep the shiny side up.
That might be true but while you're here you might miss important threads on the 997 board like, "Is it really ok to drive this car in the rain?" or "My park assist feature isn't working like I think it should be"
Anyway congrats on the great purchase!!!
Yeah, I know!
I don't know how much longer I will be allowed to go to the 997 Forum anyway, because I just chastised a Moderator for one of his posts!
I guess I could get a little "vacation time" for that one!
