Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I managed to find the caps from the Niagara Plastics company (they changed names, and changed part #s).
Leading evidence: 'Replace names' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). II removed the resonator box and bought two of those and used both top pieces.

Definitely noticeable sound improvement and seems to be running just fine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have a spare? I've done some research on the mod and seems like a nice way to get some extra sound out of our engines. Figured I would ask here before putting in a silicon hose and plugging the resonator hole with something (yes I know there are other ways to do it, but I'm not putting a shaving cream cap in my car) Obviously willing to pay for shipping and your trouble if someone is kind enough to send me one, PM me! Thanks!
I have the cap/hose posted in this thread (except hose is BLACK):
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...irbox-mod.html
I decided not to go with it (I live in NAZIfornia), willing to sell it for what I paid for it + shipping.
i found the company that made the orange cap last year, was able to order a sample for free and free shipping. google it. its a bit hard to find, as the company name and address changed. look for the part number, then google the part number. i'll try to look for it again.
Just curious ... I managed to find the caps from the Niagara Plastics company (they changed names, and changed part #s). I should be able to send a freebie to someone once I get home and get them - I think they gleefully sent me at least 4.
Question, though: I have a Tiptronic car, and this is what my engine bay looks like:

Cap goes where the red circle is, and blue is the 'extra' hose, right? I read somewhere that later generation Tiptronic cars have additional piping which the orange cap mod doesn't close off, rendering it ineffective. Does mine look like one of those, or do I just plug the left part of the Y split and I'm good to go?
Yeah, no plans to change anything else - just stick the cap in and move on with life.
I guess I over-read the threads and confused myself unnecessarily.
Thanks!
This has been posted other places, but for those of us who don't want to track down a plastic cap we can go buy one of these -

Works great.
This whole mod works even better when you pull the space wasting resonator box out of the airbox.
II removed the resonator box and bought two of those and used both top pieces. I also bought a bath tub drain gasket and used it on the inside as a seal. I also added a lock nut on top of the wing nut. I bought the silicone intake here for $32

I also bought the minature K&N looking filter since I have a tip.
I just did the mod today. Used the intake hose I received from this

Found a rubber cover for the resonator intake(?) at Ace hardware that fits perfect and looks more or less stock. Drove it around a little tonight. Throttle response might feel a little quicker (placebo?), but there is a definite difference in sound, especially as RPM's go up. I like the comparison someone else made to putting a playing card in your spokes. It may or may not do much, but the sound is kinda fun. ~$30 all-in for yet another reason to smile while driving the car? Worth it.
That said, has anyone come across a reason to NOT do this? (i.e., am I gonna break something down the road? Worse fuel economy? Spontaneous engine explosion?)
Did the mod today as well. I, on the contrary, don't feel much of a difference...... bu I have a Fabspeed exhaust, so above 4K it's pretty loud anyhow.
I have stock exhaust but did the Otay version (used two also, one inside, one outside) and removed the resonator box. Definitely sounds better with WOT! No real difference in sound until you put your foot into it. I'm probably about $40+ in with the parts. Definitely easy and worth the effort, although I've noticed no performance gain.
Homedepot carries the caps. It's called a knockout cap. You'll need a 1 1/2" one. No orange though they only carry it in white and it sells for 37 cents. Installed mine today and can hear a difference at about 3500-4000 rpm.
