Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Check /' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check /' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Do an oil change, check the coolant level for preventative measures, and let the rest go.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all....My car is a 2003 C4S Tip. I've had her a couple of years now, and love her. I try to do most of the wrenching myself, and am happy taking my time and working through most issues, with fantastic help from this forum.
So, my Oil filler tube is fractured and will need to be replaced - for a few weeks now duct tape has sufficed for a temp fix, as I haven't been using the car much, but I also feel its time to do some preventative maintenaince. So, I will add to the project the following:
Serp Belt
AOS Replacement
Engine Mounts
My questions...Best to drop the engine? Is this the way to go for these jobs? If so, I will be working off axle stands in my garage. How much time is a reasonable estimate for a guy with average skills (but lots of patience).
Anything else worth changing whilst I am in there? Im not looking to upgrade - just maintain and prevent.
Thanks for any suggestions.
for a TIP, best to drop engine and tranny may also need to be separted to access the AOS (this is per my trusted local indy). While you are in there:
* RMS
* tranny fluid and filter. tranny mounts OK?
* water pump (t-stat, tank and cap as needed)
* check/replace coil packs and spark plugs
* check/replace lines, hoses, fittings
Hopefully, the experts will chime in soon.
For the serpentine belt and the engine mounts it would be a total waste of time to drop the engine. For the AOS it might be worthwhile as it is difficult to access. But dropping the transmission alone would do it.
If you drop the engine you need to really up your parts lists.
Coolant hoses
Clutch/flywheel
As mentioned RMS
IMS
Intake gaskets
Exhaust gaskets
Water pump
Oil cooler
Here is the deal: dropping the engine/tranny is a major job, particularly in your garage. I totally get preventative measures, but.....replacing the oil filler tube is fairly easy, just the alternator bolt is sometimes tricky to get out. But once you do, it is simple with engine in car. Unless your AOS is showing signs of leaking or anything like that, I would leave it alone. Maybe just do the oil filler tube, serp belt and engine mounts, then spend your time enjoying/driving your car more. Do an oil change, check the coolant level for preventative measures, and let the rest go. Life is short.
Thanks guys... OK, perhaps it was a little ambitious. RRTEC, whilst I am sure what you say makes perfect sense if the engine is out it really does seem like a lot of work and money from my start point that everything else is fine. OK, decision made, I will try with both engine and tranny still in the car, get the Oil filler and belt done and then settle into some nice summer drives.
Great forum - really highlights the issues to be thinking about when considering options.....
