Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Check the cam position sensor, possible the connection loosened during the oil change/service.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys Just rhought id post here for some advice, my brother just bought a 99 carrera with about 150k kms. He did an oil change at the mechanic shop and few days after he got a CEL. He brought his car back to get the codes scanned and got the following 174-01 Bank 1 camshaft adjustment exceeds limit 322-01 bank 1 timing chain out of position Has anyone has experienced this before. The car drives and runs fine no noises he can hear aside from the lights on his dash. Any input would be great. Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Those, i assume, would be pretty serious. Durametric or equivalent scan needed.

POST 3Original post

Check the cam position sensor, possible the connection loosened during the oil change/service.

Okay sure will try that. Thanks.

POST 5Original post

My reference show: 174 translates to P1530 and 1531 "Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 1" 322 translates to P1340 "Timing Chain out of Position, Bank 1 – Below Lower Limit" P1340 means bank 1 is out of timing, which can only happen if the cams have been disassembled. Since the car is new to your brother, this is possible. P1530/1531 have been covered many times. The problem could be the DME, wiring, variocam solenoid, or variocam actuator. A systematic troubleshooting is needed to eliminate them one by one. My suggestion is to get Durametric and read the cam deviations, cam angles in real-time. Durametric can also speed up troubleshooting P1530/1531. It sounds like you have an issue in bank 1 cam timing and variocam system.

You also need someone that knows how to make heads or tails of the data.
