Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is missing one lug bolt on the rear. While driving I kept hearing a ticking noise. I first thought it was a nail or rock but it wasn't. I moved one lug from the other side to the side missing the bolt ..... and the ticking moved to the other side. I've got spacers and the lug length is 45mm. I wanted to get a complete set of generic lugs so I went on Amazon and ordered what looked like mine, not thinking the swivel would matter: So a few questions: The wheels I have are definitely aftermarket. Isn't it odd that they have ball seats? (I did not purchase the wheels). Do I need the R14 ball seat lug or can I use a standard 14 x 1.5 without the swivel? Many thanks.....

POST 2Original post

First thing you need to do is find what aftermarket wheels you have and which seat you need for those wheels and then the correct depth, my aftermarket wheels require ball seats. you do require the use of the swivel.

The wheels didn't have an obvious marking besides Champion. I'm guessing they are ball as the existing lugs are ball...but I suppose I can investigate more. What about the swivel? Is it a nice to have or required, depending on the wheel?

POST 4Original post

Since you have after-market wheels you have to make sure what kind of lug nut fits. Take your wheel off, look at the lug hole to see whether it is cone shape, ball shape or just flat. Different shape lug nuts torqued down into different shape holes will at the minimal destroy your wheels and at worst kill you when it came off.

POST 5Original post

Go to the local tire/rim shop and have them look at it. They know more than you when it comes to lug bolts/nuts.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found them! http://www.championmotorsport.com/pr...p/cms-rs97.htm Just need to reach out to Champion and confirm.

Anyone have a link for this bolt? I've looked at RM and the bolt doesn't look nearly long enough: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Products/...FG36-V921.aspx And the MFG part description for the same item seems to show a thread length of 20 mm.

POST 8Original post

I think I would try to find a bolt that is the same as all the others........

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

And here I thought this would be easy.... I can't seem to find a bolt that is just like the one above (14 X 1.5 Porsche Ball Seat with 45 mm shank). I see lots of these (also ball seat): And lots of these (also ball seat): But very few of these in the correct length (ball seat): I'm just looking for someone to say that any / none / some of the above bolts will work. Apparently the Porsche Ball Seat (#3) is what I need to be 100%.

POST 10Original post

With lug bolts, source of the bolt matters,, there are too many counterfeit fasteners in the world. From any one of the major P car suppliers,, you should find them for 8 to 15 bucks each depending on color and coatings. Don't use the chrome plated ones, they tend to gall. (Unless only the outside facing part is chromed. ) You can even buy them in Ti but that's just for bragging rights..
