I used the 996 snorkel , it is a direct fit on the 997 airbox , I found that while the 997 snorkel was usable, the 996 cleared the airpump and fit the lid a bit better.

the 3.6 997 box fits in , no resonator , I used the 997 rubber intake hose but you can use the 996 one.

I am planning to go back to the stock airbox (removing the K&N that came with the car) on my '03 C2. Since I didn't make the switch, I don't know what parts I will need from the stock setup to switch back. Can someone that has done this give me a list? I am assuming these come up for sale in the classifieds occasionally.
If someone is willing to trade a stock box for the K&N that would work for me.
I am switching back because this one component pushes me into the Improved Class for PCA Autocross and I want to move back to Production Class.

The box will usually come complete consists of:
- Snorkel
- Main body that is in two sections, top part and lower part
If you want to be super pedantic the one that suits your 03' has 3 tabs holding the snorkel in place the older air boxes dont have these. Otherwise the design is near identical the later has more drainage holes and a piece of mysterious baffel (some say for noise some say for water collection!).
You will need the two rubber grommets that the box sits on, check out the PET on AutoAtlanta for the part numbers they are a few dollars each.
Otherwise the whole exercise is quite easy, quick tip the snorkel doesnt need to be removed to install the box if you dont want to remove it in fear of breaking the tabs (if your replacement has them).
Also looks better... That is subjective though I really like the look of the 997 but there is the trade off on keeping the car standard. Guess it is fully reversible though!
You probably also need the rubber intake tube connecting the airbox and throttle body. Also look for the fasteners to clamp the tube to TB, airbox and the resonator in the airbox.
I also went back to the stock box from the K&N a po had installed. Silk and dan_189 covered everything you'll need, IIRC. I didn't realize the 997 box would fit, that looks good. My car sits outside fairly regularly, plus I have 2000 ft of gravel drive between my farm and the road - not "oiled element friendly". FWIW, I have Fister mufflers, but didn't notice any difference in performance or sound after the switch.
