Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

3.6 rods have diffrent bottom end diameter, so you need to use 3.4 rods with 3.4 crank.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Well Ive been enjoying my 996 very much but made a mistake downshifting wrong at the track and damaged the engine. We opened it up and the crankshaft is damaged but supposedly repairable. At least 4 of the 6 cylinders will need re-sleeving and ill have to buy new rod bearings etc. My question is, should I go for a 3.6L conversion? The car is currently located in Mexico City so I have to do the work here and buy the parts. Re-sleeving is not a problem since my friends race shop has done many many sleeves. I was thinking of buying 3.6 JE pistons and piston rods and doing a conversion to a 3.6. What do you recommend? The price on the LN 3.4 to 3.6 kit is pricey. Im trying to find a less expensive option. Maybe buying the pistons separately is cheaper?

Price for a flat6 engineering motor is 22-25k.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I can rebuild the engine like we previously did. No need for me to source and buy another, what I want to know is if anyone recommends a certain way to upgrade the engine and convert it to a 3.6 liter.

POST 6Original post

This http://lnengineering.com 911 3.4 to 3.6 I have had welded crank in my car since 2011 ( if I remember the year right) About 90k km's driven with it. If you sleeve the block with cast iron, you can use any pistons you can fit there. Plus normal pistonrings. 3.6 rods have diffrent bottom end diameter, so you need to use 3.4 rods with 3.4 crank. (IMO)
