Is it possible to change the A/C vents only? (reusing the surrounds)

Hello, I would like to change the color of my AC vents (center and both sides) from Savannah Beige to dark gray or black, but to reuse the existing dark wood surrounds. Basically I want to buy gray/black vent assemblies on eBay, take them apart, and just transfer the vent portion into my existing wood assemblies. I suspect the center vent is removable from the surrounding assembly (though not 100 percent sure), but I definitely don't know if the side vents can be disassembled to transfer just the vent portion to my surrounds. If anybody knows how easy/possible it is to move the vents, I would appreciate your feedback. Below are some pics of what the interior looks like now, I feel like dark gray or black vents would look much better than the current beige.

That looks like a highly optioned car, in good condition. I wouldn't touch it.

I rebuilt one of my side vents when I got my car, its feasible but very fiddly.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I'm getting ready to add a garage door switch via hidden HomeLink, so I'd like to do the vents (if I can) while I am in there. I've been assuming at least the center vent is removable, but it doesn't seem to be a separate part in the parts diagram Joe posted. Of course, I guess it might still be possible to remove the center vent, even if it isn't a separate part. It sounds like the side vents are not easy based on MontyChristo's post. I guess it would look weird to change only the center vent to dark gray. Normally I'm an originality freak, but I'd probably do it as long as it was reversible. The prior owner spent something like $2500 at the dealer to have some of the original wood panels replaced -- apparently they had cracked, but these are in good shape.

Centre must be 2 parts, but for the side, haven't seen them come separately.

If you pull the side vent off, you can see that it is possible to pull it apart...... but you may shatter the whole thing in the process. My '98 C2 has been sitting in the desert sun for its entire life and the plastic is very brittle. I had to fix the vent adjuster as it had popped loose. I bought a replacement vent just in case the whole thing imploded. There was a bit of creaking and slight cracking but got lucky.

Thanks for all the feedback. In thinking this through, I decided not to change anything. I noticed that even the vent control **** and the vent direction tabs are leather, so changing it out to something else would be wrong. I decided to clean them instead. They were already pretty clean, but with beige even a tiny bit of dirt makes a difference. I picked up this brush from Amazon and it is great for cleaning the vents and other parts of the interior ( Amazon Amazon ). Thanks again for all the feedback.

These were a Tequipment option,alumalook slats.leather covered.....look around,la dismantlers or D.C auto salvage,sometimes they have custom vents from tequipment just be prepared to pay!! not worth trying to take apart the vent,to fragile.

I need to replace my passenger side vent assembly, but I was just going to try the whole unit off and replace it with one from eBay. How hard is that?

Pretty easy, remove the round grill and pull the inside screw. The outside screws are easy to see. Then pull the whole assembly off.
