Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As per the post title has anyone ever heard of doing a fister D type mod to a fabspeed maxflow muffler ?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

IMO Fabspeeds sound ok under WOT but they lack the throaty sound/bark of the, PSE hence the question. My Fabspeeds also drone so I'd be interested to see if something like the Fister mod would have an effect on that issue as well.

POST 5Original post

I went with the fabspeed Supercups... much more Bark.

POST 6Original post

I was wondering if there was drone - that would be reason enough for me to make a change... IMO you could sell the fabspeeds and buy a set of fisters, and come out with enough cash to run 2 days at the track

POST 7Original post

They only drone at about 2,400 - 2,600 rpms or so at tip-in, not steady state in 6th gear on the freeway, then it's gone (at least to my ears). When I first put them on that did bother me, but that situation doesn't happen that often. However I wouldn't mind a bit more sound as well - good idea to the OP.

I'm glad you mentioned the drone. I bought M&K mufflers which are basically straight-thru and they perform almost verbatim to what you have described. I'd considered swapping them for a pair of Fabspeeds but now I guess not. I like the sound of the M&Ks but sometimes it gets old - usually when I'm driving a lot of low speeds and shifting below 4k. My ideal sound would be a GT3 Cup exhaust note, just not as loud. More race car and less muscle car, if you know what I mean.

POST 9Original post

*shakes head*... u guys are getting too old... J/K :-)

Happens to everyone - if you're lucky.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

From what I've read not everyone experiences the drone. I didn't mind it so much driving locally & 'optimally' in terms of gear selection/rpm but drone was still noticeable. Then I went for a 2 hour drive with my brother in traffic/cruise where it was impractical and a pain in the *** to keep the revs above 2800 continuously. The drone was embarrassing as well as annoying and I uninstalled them a few days later. I like that they are light and I liked the sporty aspect of the sound (could be louder as suggested above).

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

According to the post at the link below it seems like someone has already tried the fister mod idea with a set of Fabspeeds (see post 27) and discovered that it 'transformed' the Fabspeeds. I'm glad to read about that of course. So I think I'll do the same thing after Xmas. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...sadness-2.html

POST 13Original post

Hi, Just curious to hear if you someone has done the mod to fabspeed mufflers. I sent a note to FisterD and they have not done it. I have a brand new set of Fabspeed mufflers on my 996 40th anniversary and I am going to sell them here if I the mod can't be done on them. any news? thanks!

POST 14Original post

what do you want to achive.. more sound? try the fabspeed supercups... you could sell the current ones and pick up the supercups for almost nothing out of pocket.... oh and another seattle person eh? sweet! :-)

POST 15Original post

Yep, I am in Seattle and loving the weather today. I am looking for the kind of sound I had on my 2002 targa that had PSE... deep and throaty sound from the exhaust but that would also let you hear that it is a Flat 6. The maxflo sound like a small engine with a big exhaust. I have received the Competition Air Intake. I will install that and see how it feels. I am a PCA member but haven't signed up for the Northwest chapter... will have to in order to find if there are get together that wre coming up! P.

POST 16Original post

Um fabspeed sells them as the "fisterD" mod....its the new valvetronic that they are selling It's the fabspeed mufflers with a pipe connecting inlet to outlet and can be open/closed...basically the open valve would be FisterD on fabspeeds. There are some videos floating around
