My issue was the window wouldn't drop down on opening the door, got tired of pushing down on the window before closing.

Guess you need reconnect the airbag before connecting the battery.

Is there any other way to reset air bag fault dashboard light?

Options: Dealer, friend or PCA member with Durametric, Indy, or there are some OBDII scanners that may reset the airbag light
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just changed my widow regulator on the passenger side. There is a lot of information around and it helped a lot. One issue I did have is getting a fault code for the air bag. I did as most online instructions said, unhooked the battery before unplugging the air bag. I did however hook the battery back up to re-position the regulator and test the installation leaving the airbag unhooked. Guess you need reconnect the airbag before connecting the battery. Didn't read I needed to do that anywhere. Probably obvious but might help someone else in the future. I have the Durametric cable so it was not big deal to reset the fault.
Exactly, this is where the fault was triggered. But no harm, no foul... you have a Durametric and can reset the light. I've been down this road before too. Was the regulator easy to install?
No problems with installation, have done a number of these in the past on my BMW. My issue was the window wouldn't drop down on opening the door, got tired of pushing down on the window before closing. Turned out the cable had jumped off one of the pulleys. I might of been able to put it back on but figured it would probably happen again, so I installed the new one. Other thing I learned was to buy the OEM regulators otherwise they don't last long (experience with the BMW).
Super! I completely agree, going cheap (i.e. non-OEM) has it's consequences. It all depends on what it is... if we're talking about a plastic lip spoiler no big deal to go aftermarket, but if we're talking about a engine component... well, it's always better to go with an OEM part unless the 996 community has overwhelming support for the product's performance and durability (e.g. LN IMS replacements).
I have same issue after window regulator change. QUESTION? Is there any other way to reset air bag fault dashboard light? I don't have " Durametric cable" or know how to interface cable if I had one. Can I simply unhook battery for a while??? Thanks (1999 - 996 cab)
