Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hard to tell where they are from the car is squeeky. Any places to look for lubricate?

POST 3Original post

Not so sure about this the control arms. I have a set of brand new control arms. I have 2002 C4 Cab. Fighting the same problem. Drives me nuts when going over potholes. My mechanic thinks it may be the cabriolet mechanism that is making squeaks. Mine is coming from behind on the left side.

POST 4Original post

Same sort of problem, 03 C 2 Cab, 38,000 miles, creaky sounds....usually on driveways, speed bumps etc....sounds like it's coming from the top mechanism...

POST 5Original post

There are plenty of potential squeaky points. The most common by far are the ball joints in the LCA's (coffin arms)...

POST 6Original post

I had many squeaks and rattles from the top on my 2002 C2 cabriolet. I opened the top to the service position and then proceeded to lubricate every point that rotates. Then I used a proper rubber seal conditioner and rubbed down every piece of visible rubber on the top mechanism and the meeting points on the body including the movable hard cover. Took a few goes at it but the top is quiet finally. I never had noise from the suspension, at least not yet!

POST 7Original post

"never had noise from the suspension, at least not yet!" Jinx!!!

POST 8Original post

Well, that's encouraging. These squeaks are driving me nuts. Do you have any instructions on how to do it? Is it difficult and time consuming?

POST 10Original post

What about clutch? I was told that's normal with old cars. Mine squeaks when shifting. Do you know how to lubricate it?

POST 11Original post

My clutch also squeaks even though all fluids have been replaced. My Indy says dont worry about it so I dont. Cant hear it with the top down.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 15813194

Never used that particular product but it looks good. Anything designed specifically for rubber seems a better idea than just putting on WD40 or silicone.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 15813186

No real instructions other than listen for squeaks inside with the top closed and spend a little more time on those areas to make sure you reach all points of movement to lubricate them.

POST 15Original post

My friend and I recently test drove a 2003 Cab with 65k on it. No squeaks or rattles at all. Neither clutch nor cab mechanism. Totally quiet.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 15813170

Don't write this off you cab guys as silly. Drive your car over all those spots where squeaks and rattles occur with the top down, you may be surprised that they disappear when the top is down. Then put top up and repeat, they most likely will reappear. Then condition the rubber seals on the clam shell where they rest on the car, and condition the rubber seals where the top meets the top of the front window. Also the window seals on the top where the windows meet when closed. Then drive it again over those spots, TA DA noises gone. If not, you got bigger problems. When those seals dry out and become grippy, they squeak as they slide when the car frame twists. Kinda like sneakers on a waxed floor. I figured this out years ago. I do this every 4 months here in Florida, or when the squeaks start. Before then I always thought it was the suspension. Amazing how much it sounds like suspension noise. Logic just tells you it should be suspension, of course, for some it may be. For good measure, lubricate all the connection points in the top mechanics. Not the cause of the squeaks, but need lube none the less

POST 17Original post

Last year I had an annoying squeak from the top of the A pillar in my '02 Cab. While driving, I discovered that with the top up I could press down on the top at the A pillar, and the noise would go away. It turned out that there was a missing piece of plastic where the cab top engages with the A pillar. I replaced the missing part and the squeak was gone!

POST 18Original post

What type of oil do you use? I hear that depending on which type, your car may squeak more...

Awwwww rolli, that's not nice ! I think you can put your gummi pflege where the sun don't shine! As for the original question... 14 posts on "why is my car squeaking" is a little over the top IMO - especially considering a forum search or even a web search for that matter would result in mostly the same answers gotten by starting a new thread here...

Ohmygawd, you're a LawnGuylander. Explains everything. Hangin' out in the strip mall parkin' lot this weekend in the Pooooorsh? Bet that Poooorsh looks good in the section 8 parking garage. Cool Brah!

POST 25Original post

OK, I’m following this closely and ordered some gummy pflege for the rubber. Would 3 in 1 oil work for the lubrication points? I’m looking forward to working on this as my top is extremely squeaky on our crappy bumpy roads. But when the top is down, tight and squeak-free. Daryll

POST 26Original post

When top is down you won't hear most squeaks from road noise. You may hear different kinds of squeaks coming from the folded top mechanism. At least that is what I hear.

POST 27Original post

Gummy Pflege from Einszett is just 1 of many weather stripping conditioners, and a good one, the one I use. I use all 1Z Einszett products, which FYI has changed name to Nextzett. Same stuff new brand name. 3 in 1 should do it, better than nothing. I use weapon shield cause it bonds to the metal and stays put. Probably would use something else if I didn't already have it for my firearms. When you do this, do 1 at a time, just the GF on the rubber bits then drive it and see if the issue is gone. Then the 3 in 1 on frame joints. If you do both at once you won't known which one solved your issue.

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ordered the GF will get some 3 in 1 today.

Great - thank you rolex - this is exactly the information that I was looking for. GP is on order - will do the seals first and see how it does before I use the oil. Will post an update when done. Hopefully this will also help my hardtop when I put that back on - it squeaks as bad as the soft top. Daryll

POST 32Original post

Quotes source post: 15857331

Got my Gummi Pflege and used it on all the rubber parts of the top. I would say that it made about a 50% difference - tomorrow I will go over all the rubber again and see if it gets any better. Also now I can identify better the potential metal squeaks - once I drive it with a second Gummi Pflege application then I will start with the 3 in 1 oil on the folding bits. But based on the first application it seems like I'm on the right track. My car was a one-owner car and well maintained until about two years ago - it was purchased by a dealer for a personal driver, but he only put 500 miles on it in a year and a half. So lots of little things have needed done in the six months that I have owned it. So far so good. Your info helped a lot. Daryll
