Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Update, After spending about an hour trying two wrench's, I used a crow foot and a 6" extension for the closest fitting and a box wrench on the other side.

Yes - day 2 and not killing my self ( patients ) motor and trans ready to drop - thankfully it was a California car and clean almost like new under neath- the leverage will be key and the heat gun should work - do I replace coupling or just use what is there?

If you can get the two wrenches so they are only offset by an inch so you can use both of your hands for pressure that will make it easier.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting ready to drop motor and transmission- theses power steering lies not separating- is there a trick or different way to get these off??

POST 3Original post

No Trick. Just need to get the correct leverage on them. If you can get the two wrenches so they are only offset by an inch so you can use both of your hands for pressure that will make it easier. Also, make sure you are applying pressure in the correct way.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Right to tight - left to loose? I removed AC Compressor

POST 5Original post

PS lines are the very last thing I do. Get everything else ready to go and then start dropping the motor. Undo the brackets holding the PS lines and you can drop the engine even further. The extra room makes ALL the difference. And Kris's leverage suggestion is spot on. Once you get them to break loose, after a turn or two you can finish by hand.

POST 6Original post

I find a crows foot wrench on a long extension can work too.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got the big one undone - I will drop motor and tackle small line -

POST 8Original post

I was able to get the large (17mm) one separated, with considerable effort. I failed on the small (15mm) hose coupler, and ended up cutting the hose. (This was less painful than it might have been, as this hose had been leaking and probably needed replacement.) Dropping the engine a few inches improves access a lot. I'd add a suggestion to apply heat from a heat gun. These fittings are much too tight. They seal internally with an O-ring, and don't need a lot of torque - probably not much more than hand tight would suffice. ETA: Note that the hose sizes given above (17mm and 15mm) refer to the size of the wrenches necessary to operate on the brass fittings.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes - day 2 and not killing my self ( patients ) motor and trans ready to drop - thankfully it was a California car and clean almost like new under neath- the leverage will be key and the heat gun should work - do I replace coupling or just use what is there? The real dilemma is how deep do I go on this 111 K motor - runs great did a tune last year- AOS this year w / clutch and IMS It's. 99 C4 - notice one shift cable tighter than the other - please send all advise thanks

Provided you get it apart without damage, definitely re-use it. When re-assembling, no need to use the original crazy torque.

POST 11Original post

What a pain in the butt these are. Mines 19mm and 15mm Update, After spending about an hour trying two wrench's, I used a crow foot and a 6" extension for the closest fitting and a box wrench on the other side. Snap, off in two minutes. Super easy!
