Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I installed my Carrera decals last week. Not an easy job for s perfectionist. I got it done perfectly. After installing wall covering for 35 years (wallpaper hanger) I felt I was up for the challenge. Two hour job including prep. I washed the car then used a clay bar to remove any contaminants. Made it super smooth. I followed the directions to the letter. If youll notice the tail pipes Also installed factory dual outlet tips whens Input my Fister exhaust on. I love that look. As of right now now wing is planned. I think they are cheesy for a street car. While that comment may **** some people of. This is about my car though. I like the simple smooth flow of the rear. I think the tacos make the 996 look like just that. A car with a taco on the back. Im all set with tacos. so after a long winter here is my progress. Ill even sneak an interior picture in too. y

POST 5Original post

Sorry but that "Carrera" decal just ruins the car (for me) but, I do like the rest!

POST 6Original post

As a designer, that door decal just makes me cringe The typeface height is so much, the 'a' is kind of messed up and the scale/proportion is simply so off that it looks like a bad imitation. I would reconsider placing either a striped 'PORSCHE' on the door or a smaller Carrera designation that comes on the modern cars.

POST 7Original post

Yes, it does look like a little kid did it with a crayon. This is how one should look

POST 8Original post

The taco was not available from Porsche on a cab so you bought the right car...

POST 9Original post

The only side script that actual works as in looks good on a 996 is the Porsche thin double stripe. But none of really work out for 993 or newer. They just don't look right. That font on yours is all messed up, it looks like a cartoon.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This comes to me as a surprise. I post images of what I have done ro my car not really looking for opinions. I did it the way I like it. To have people post and do nothing but criticize is kind of insulting. Thats ok I am thick skinned. It only tells me the that some people are here for that reason alone. i mean I got one guy telling me he doesnt like my decal when he rebuilt his engine the wrong way and blew it up. I was not critical of that and I am still not. Regardless of what you write I like it and thats what matters to me. In fact I have received many compliments from people who ha e seen my car around here is public. Despite your criticism I love my car and I think it brings a touch of old school with old new school. And as far as tacos go, why would I want to ride around with a taco stick to the back of my car. Talk about looks like a kid did it. Taco...... yea right Ingot to get me one of those. Lol

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As a designer that doesnt mean your opinion was asked. So if you are a professional you would already know that if your opinion is not asked it should not be given. Im a contractor and I work with designers all the time. For them time is money. So I think your designer opinion is worthless to me.

POST 13Original post

You posted pictures of your vehicle and modifications you made to it in a public forum. In doing so, you're going to get responses from the public. You clearly did an excellent job installing the graphic on the car, but the fact remains that you chose a decal that was poorly designed and does not match the car. If you like it, then it doesn't matter what we think, it's your car.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 15837487

+1000 I dont get why you are getting so mad about people giving you their honest opinion. First, because if you publish your results in a forum is for open discussion and second, because, so far, I think people has talked to you very friendly and even giving their opinion in the best way they think they can help As has been said, your installation work looks good, but the decal is just totally wrong. I dont know what the people close to you have said, but if they have ever seen a "Carrera" decal before, and they are honest with you and try to help, the best advice would be, "that is not the correct one" But, again, its your car, and if you like it, that is

POST 15Original post

But when I first saw it I thought something didn't look right, Font, Script, Placement. Something Cheesy as you say. As a perfectionist, I would have expected to take a look at other cars and gotten an idea of what is considered correct font, Script, placement I'm all for mixing old with new if done right like your C4S rear bumper. I'm ok with it. I publish pic's of things I do to my Car , some people don't like it. That's OK It's my car. I'll do what I like. So should you. Your side stripes I just don't think looked right. I take it you got them from an ebay or other secondary vendor that Porsche is suing for copyright infringement example Yours needs a little edge off the bottom door line approx 1-2" up

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 15837324

As a designer/996 owner, he was responding to your inquiry of what did people think of your cars' side stripe job. You got an honest knowledgeable opinion I'd be interested to see in Designer Job Description that says,If Opinion not asked for, don't give it." I also work with a lot of Contractors and some Designers we have on staff, For most of them it's getting the design right for the requirements given. Everybody lives by Time is money. Redoing it is more money. scraping the original design is wasted money when an opinion could have helped. Someone offers another opinion, I look at it as constructive criticism along with their knowledge of the subject at hand.

[/QUOTE] Is that left tailpipe pointing outward or that the camera angle?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This place isnt really fun anymore. Ill just keep my business myself. I really like the way it looks and to the general non-Porsche public it makes no difference. I get plenty of compliments. I still post here and visit but I wont ever open myself up for the keyboard studs to write for whatever reason they do. I do the best with what I have and what I know. The car looks much more exciting to me now than when it was just a stretch of less than thrilling side profile.

POST 22Original post

The guy is all proud of his car and posts some photos of it and people crap all over it and your response is "I don't get why you are getting so mad...". If you wouldn't say it to him in person at a car show, then don't post it. Its pretty easy to just keep scrolling.

POST 23Original post

Maybe it's just the angle, but your right exhaust tip looks canted too. Just sayin'...

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Your probably right about the tip. When I installed them the drivers side was not tight enough. It moved and I could feel a slight wiggle. Just waiting for some time to do it. Ive been working 55 hours a weeks the past three weeks. Yesterday was the first time I was able to take the car for a ride in three weeks.

POST 25Original post

You guys are being a bit harsh. I ordered my decals from China. They aren't exactly what I expected, but I paid for them, so...

POST 26Original post

I think Comic Sans or maybe Papyrus would have been a better font choice.

POST 28Original post

Wow you guys are brutal. Whether I like it or not, I do enjoy seeing fellow 996 owners make the car theirs. Expect praise AND criticism. Comes with the territory around these parts and I for one dont fault either. Good on ya OP for separating yours from the pack.

POST 29Original post

1. Hats off to you on lining that carrera decal up 2. Personally, I think that the decal reminds me of the 60's 911's and as long as you like it, its fine by me. I don't think i could pull it off with my 5 Spoke Carreras it does suit the twists nicely.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 15838073

As long as you like the car do what makes you happy, Whenever I go to an autocross event I put little Xs over the lowbeam lights cause it looks funny, I'm sure that I get plenty of odd looks but I could care less.

POST 31Original post

I see a lot of this type of this type of thing on this forum. It’s normally something along the lines of: ” I am looking at a 2000 silver on black Carrera at Jose’s cash for car sales. It has no paperwork and 130,000 miles. I do not know how to work on cars, I just want a change of pace from my 2004 Honda Civic. They offer 72 month financing. Can I drive this daily?” Then the op will only respond to or entertain comments that tell him its a good idea. Any good points towards not buying the car are ignored. B ottom line is people will hear what they want to. They also don’t like criticism. That’s how society is nowadays. I always thought criticism is a good way to learn about oneself. Oh well!

POST 33Original post

Everyone can have an opinion... I hear plenty at Cars and Coffee. Not everyone likes my mods but I sure do love a good car chat so for or against, i love hearing peoples thoughts on mods (mine or others). I think the stickers look ok. I'm more confused by the rear bumper and how it fits with the early 996 and the 17" wheels but I dont know if you have future plans for the car to upgrade other parts. I really like your interior! I can tell you really take pride in your car and its a hell of alot cleaner than mine. Kudos! I need to make time to clean mine up and not be "that guy" with the beat 911 lol

Thats what I was going for. Mixing the new with the old. I really appreciate your compliment. Its reassuring. Ive looked at my car several times since the insults came in. Bottom line I dont care. I like it. Not to mention my wife and son thing it looks great colors match up well. I know the internet can be a cruel place where people with mental disorders can come to play head games. Its a shame this site is polluted to. With a little experience under my belt its not hard to see who is intelligent and who is not. Ill pass on the childs play and watch for the meaningful posts that can often be found here. I wish you all well. Brian

Ah, come on Brian. We're all like beer buddies poking fun at each other. Heck, I got faux carbon bits in my car that I think are ugly, but my wife, for some reason unknown to anyone, loves them and so they'll stay which means I'll have to put up with the funny remarks at car events. I've just learned to laugh along with it. Just like when someone comes up and makes the old "Is this a VW?" comment or talk about the headlights over and over again. Like other people have said, it's your car put whatever sticker you want to on the darn thing. But please, avoid putting stick people and/or pets on the rear window.

POST 49 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Even though I get made fun off because of the way I have customized my car I do believe there are also people here who can appreciate the look. My new wheels will be here soon. I cant wait to put them on they will change the look significantly. I have a new front bumper at the shop I hope they get to it soon. I let them save it for a slow period and I get a little discount. Here is my contribution for the day. First time I was able to ride with the top down for over an hour.

POST 51Original post

Glad you're enjoying your car today, that's all that counts!

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im loving it. We dont have a lot of Porsches in my neck of the woods. Not like Cali or NY orTX. I live in the suburbs. People appreciate seeing a 20 year old Porsche in mint condition with unique styling. I dont think so will be adding a spoiler to this car. The view of the rear is just so elegant and tasteful. The dual tips really brought it together along with the bumper. Man I am so proud of this car. Most of all I can drive a 911 like a 911 should be driven.

POST 53Original post

I really like the rear bumper cover with those openings on the side, very good improvement on the looks. Looking forward to seeing the new wheels.
