Gert Carnewal said the Koni FSDs (which have now been replaced by the Koni Special Actives) would fit, so I got those.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2003 Targa with 74,000 miles, looking at replacing old shocks are the Koni active shocks okay, Im just looking for good street replacement as I have some long trips this summer in the works. John

POST 2Original post

I would recommend Bilstein B4 (Exatly like OEM) or B6 (a little bit sportier, but with the same riding height). Curiously, for our cars, the B6 are cheaper than the B4...

POST 5Original post

I'm curious about this as well. I'm also a Targa owner. What about upgrading the springs to something like an H&R spring along with the Bilsteins? I'm not going to really track it much and want to keep a stock type of ride while improving the stance and handling.

POST 9Original post

ROW M030 OEM Porsche. Available from Suncoast or Carewal. I would recommend replacing the strut top mounts and bearings, especially the fronts. These are not included with the M030 kit. If you really want to refresh everything then replace all suspension arms and swaybar drop links at the same time. I will admit I am guilty of "where do you stop?" syndrome. I would do wheel bearings and at least regrease the half shafts with new boots too while I was at it. LOL. I have a sickness.

POST 10Original post

^^ You read my mind. I have just made the RoW C4S suspension on my car, together with front strut mounts and bearings, and the result could not make me happier.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for all the advice, simply put the car has been in the south all its life before coming to Kansas City, all arms, boots etc are in great condition. Shocks seem to be a little "mushei" I have the chance to buy a new set of Red Koni actives for $700 or could go the Bilstein B4 @ $1218. I am only street driving and some long road trips, Watkins Glen this year. So just looking at these 2 options ???

POST 12Original post

I know the price is quite higher, but I would go with Bilstein

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 15656620

Where are you finding that price?

POST 14Original post

OP: If you haven’t looked at the M030, you should. Value and the way the car should’ve been spec’d as ‘std’. Shocks, struts, springs and sways for a very reasonable cost. You can even find the X74 front tops...not cheap, but less $ than the Taretts or Elephants...for full factory flavor. The only pick I have with the M030 is I’d like about 13mm more drop. Full M030 and 15mm spacers all corners. PS4S shoes on 19’s.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 15656742

The x74 suspension has the extra drop you are looking for. I have it on my 2002 - it handles amazingly, but if is really low.

POST 17Original post

I bought the RoW M030 suspension from Carnewal and installed it on my 2003 996 Targa a few years ago. It dropped the rear about 15 mm and the front ~10 mm. The M030 shocks were way too stiff in compression. Every time I'd hit a 1/2-inch step in the freeway it would jolt the whole car. Gert Carnewal said the Koni FSDs (which have now been replaced by the Koni Special Actives) would fit, so I got those. I think they're sized for a higher car, because I had to really compress the front shocks to get them under the fenders. They raised the car up 5-10 mm, which I didn't want. I am pleased with the smoothness in daily driving, but I think my car rolls too much in autocross. I have a photo with one front wheel off the ground in hard cornering. I'm now considering the Koni yellow shocks. Has anyone installed these with the M030 springs? I want to know if my car will drop back down, or stay high. I also want to know if I'll have less roll.

POST 18Original post

Wow...Over $3k for M030 ROW... This used to be "the affordable choice" - I guess Porsche got the memo...I'd go for coil overs if I were looking to spend that kind of dough. For the $1500 range (shocks, struts & springs) I'd probably do the Bilstein/H&R (or Eibach) route.

POST 19Original post

Just looked at Suncoast. They no longer list the M030.

POST 22Original post

parris - My car has the Porsche x74 kit from Carnewal, installed by a shop for a previous owner. I have the receipts for the kit and the installation, below is a breakdown of what was included. I assume that they installed whatever is in the kit. Would you be willing to post the pages from the manual? Not sure if this is correct, but it says the different motor mounts are for x73 not x74: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ml#post4074514 Workshop manual pages would help. Thanks!

POST 23Original post

I'd have said go for the ROW M030 but I can't even find it anymore! if these prices are true then I'd recommend the bilstien or koni's. I have Raceworks coils and I absolutely love them, but they have an inconsistent customer support, so I'd buy them at your own risk. I was lucky and had no issues, others were not as lucky.
