Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use ...saved me some time, brain cells and swearing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust cruise control switch at the pedal' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
I believe you can adjust the cruise control switch at the pedal to make up for no spring, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Suggestion
Some folks just left it out completely with the possible consequence of the cruise engage switch not being triggered on clutch release (which is why some use the weaker springme included).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just before pulling into my driveway after a long hard workday, I felt my clutch go stiff. I previously noticed a creaking noise as I pushed the pedal but it never affected driveablity.
I'm up early and need to be back to work in a couple of hours...I'm assuming it's a broken spring at this point.
I'm I ok to drive it as is? I don't/can't get stuck at 6am!
Theres a long thread on removing that spring and replacing it with a weaker version. Some folks just left it out completely with the possible consequence of the cruise engage switch not being triggered on clutch release (which is why some use the weaker springme included). So IMHO youll be fine if its broken.
Thanks, I just needed to make sure something won't get bound up and cause shifting issues until I can remove or replace it. Read a bunch on removing them but nothing about leaving a broken one on for a bit.
Hey Bill- I had the same issue a while back - felt exactly as how you described and when I pulled the helper spring it was broken in two. I continued to drive it without issue for a few days ( its my DD) while waiting on the new spring to come in. Replacing that thing was a PITA but totally doable, just take your time. Good luck!
Assume you are talking about the "pedal helper spring"? Was the squeak in the pedal area or underneath the car in the back? Reason I asked is I noticed my car squeaking from the back when I operated the clutch pedal last year. This year the pedal went all weird and almost "floppy". A certain Porsche expert thinks it might be a destroyed the clutch pressure plate.
Bill,
Left my broken spring on for a couple of days, but I couldn’t stand the unnatural clutch feel for long. If it is the spring you feel a binding as you depress or release the clutch pedal, and may feel a metallic resistance under foot, and maybe a click/crack broken spring noise. If you replace it, prepare to be upside down under the dash with your face by the pedals. I put a tennis ball on the end of a broomstick (tennis ball against seat back and stick end on clutch pedal) to keep pedal depressed. Yes from the pedal. Yours does sound like a failed pressure plate. Been there with my early VW's.
I drove to work and back with no issue. I am not anxious to fix it at this point as it drives fine and I don't need cruise control. But, it will be put down the priority pole for now.
I took that spring out and never looked back. Although the clutch is harder to push, it is easier to find the engagement point. I believe you can adjust the cruise control switch at the pedal to make up for no spring, I just haven't gotten around to it yet.
