Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In my experience, used car dealers are coached to treat their cars like this is the only one in the world with this specific combination of year, features and mileage and believe that as a result, they can get whatever they want for a car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Helping a friend out. It would be his 2nd 996 if he buying it. Any info on the car or the dealer?

After talking to my buddy, the dealer was not in a big hurry to allow a PPI, but it sounds like they will allow it. The sales person is coming off like he came from a mattress store.
Strangely, they have paperwork showing an RMS and slave cylinder replacement at two times, separated by about 10,000 miles. Not sure why, seems strange.
In my experience, used car dealers are coached to treat their cars like this is the only one in the world with this specific combination of year, features and mileage and believe that as a result, they can get whatever they want for a car. If they won't deal, keep walking... There are plenty of other similar 996 out there.
Its a Maserati dealer. They are used to customers that hand over their wallets to be burned on altars in sacrifice rituals. Outside of that, it might be a great car.
Unfortunately, the dealer required my friend to buy the car and go under contract prior to the PPI. They said they would tear up the contract upon final negotiation based on the outcome of the PPI. My friend said no way and walked out. I dont blame him.
My friend didnt read the reviews of the dealers at all. I advise folks to always do this. They all show up as 4-stars or higher, but its the negative reviews that tell the most interesting and revealing stories.
I don't get it? You negotiate the deal (go under contract) then have your PPI. If you are not happy with the PPI you can walk, if you request repairs the dealer doesn't want to do they can walk. Thats what they are saying. Seems reasonable in any sales transaction.
Like buying a house, you go under contract then have your inspections. If either party isn't happy wit the outcome they say no and back out.
Its not quite like buying a house. Buying a house includes an attorney review period and no down payment. The purchase and funding happen much later, after all negotiations.
This dealer wanted money up front, although Im not clear on how much. General rule with dealers is not to give them money up front, especially with a car like this. Most deposits do not get refunded.
Worse, after the seller receives your money, they also have a free PPI result, so they know what they might need to fix on the vehicle, whereas before, they didnt have a clue, did know but didnt care, or did know and purposefully tried to hide it. Sorry, but theres a lot of shady dealers out there, and you have to trust but verify in my experience.
When you said this I took it as the dealer wanted a deposit and a contract to buy, which would be refundable if an unsatisfactory PPI came back. Thats why I said like a house. You put a deposit with a contract to purchase, and then have inspections. Inspections come back crappy, you either negotiate repairs or get your deposit back. I would never pay for the car in full then have it inspected, and I don't think they meant that either. I think they were misunderstood???
Yeah, I dont have all the info for sure. And this is all 2nd hand, so its worth less than a penny. All I can say is that the buyer felt like the dealer was jerking him around and didnt want to agree to a PPI, even at all, at first. Said things like, the car is a good car, theres nothing wrong with it, and then finally agreed to a PPI but under conditions of some type of contract with payment.
I guess it doesnt matter, as the buyer walked away.
So my buyer is still looking for a 996, of which he should be able to find here in Chicagoland pretty easily. He thinks a good time to buy might also be Autumn, which I tend to agree with as well.
I did a PPI on a Maserati GranSport from Fields two summers ago. They were very accommodating. Let me choose a mechanic of my choice. I didn't buy the car but overall it was a positive experience. Joel the sales manager was a gentleman.
Surprisingly low coming from a Porsche dealership. Looks like it has a nice service history looking at the carfax report. If the dealership offers a warranty that would be a great deal IMHO. A good example of an all original, unmolested '99.
A Porsche dealer selling a '99 with nearly 100K miles? Unheard of!! No dealer I have known will make a market in '99s with nearly 100K miles...too risky. Plus at $19-20K asking price, you can buy '99s all day long.
