I had a Herkukes pneumatic platform lift that I used for my 1980 911 SC. It worked great.

Just enough clearance to drop the engine but its not my type of work (Im not doing engine work except small projects like water pump, plugs, oil changes ect..)

Suggestion
I used Rhino Jacks to change the oil, but they are too steep even my stock 996, plus I end up with the car not where I want it because I ended up having to back up the ramps.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am "Breezily" impressed
(Sorry, I saw that in the description from Mfgr and found that word to be humorous)
I love the idea of this setup and it would work perfect for my situation too, but the reviews on the QC of this product scare the heck out of me. The reviews for the problems 'out of the box' sound frightening.
I'll wait till next Christmas to add to my list.
I'm starting to see more and more of these being used at the track.
Pretty cool how things like these that used to be items only rich people bought are now available to a wider demographic.
I got one this fall and it was painless to setup and use. No problems what so ever. They even include protective caps for the fittings now so you don't have to come up with ones on your own like original.
I would say, less back and forth, lifting one side then the other, plus ability to get Quickjacks under a lowered car. I don't think you could get lift bars under without first driving car up onto blocks to get enough clearance for jack.
Never tried the QuickJack lift but quite frankly I love my lift bars. Works exactly as advertised, and pretty easy/quick to use.
My car is lowered about 1" with PSS10's. I don't have to get it up on blocks, but my low profile floor jack does barely fit.
Lift bars with jack stands at 16"
I really like the lift bars. Oil changes are a breeze.
I have both. The 7000 lb. model fits perfectly the jack points of my 928. I have not used it on the 996 yet. The quickjack doesn't collapse low enough for the 996 ( at least the 7000 model). My solution I believe would have to put 4X6 blocks under the wheels to get it higher for the quickjack. It doesn't help having the European height also.
I was looking at the QuickJack but I did some calculations on lift height and it definitely won't raise a Carrera high enough to drop the engine and you *might* be able to get the transmission out, but not on a transmission jack of any type that I could find.
Now that Flat6 has done all of the work that I was going to have to pull the transmission for, I might look at getting one again--especially at that price.
Gotta decide in the next 2 days since the $100 off runs out on 12/11...
This is the whole reason I haven’t bought one. I want a low profile lift for my garage that can safely lift the car high enough to drop the power train.
Double the money, but more than twice the utility, the Danmar low rise portable lifts are amazing. I just upgraded my Maxjax to a Mx-6 with a black friday deal. Perfect for dropping the powertrain.
I kept my liftbars from my 928S 4, not knowing that they would exactly fit the 996! The car sits too low to slide the jack and bars underneath, so I first lift both rear wheels and place small blocks under the tires which enables me to then use the liftbars. Good news with the liftbars is that you can stand them in a corner of the garage as they take-up no space whatsoever and are highly effective tools.

I thought those were kind of pricey so I made my own. I'm no master welder by any stretch but I think it turned out okay. It was about $25 worth of steel from the bargain bin at the metal supply store.

What I want is that QuickJack type setup, but one where it is built into my garage floor, flush, and I can drive over it in place.
There's lots of things I want but I won't end up getting
I took the plunge and mine arrive on Friday too. Worst case if I end up getting a proper two post lift, I can probably sell this for 700 bucks or so after getting a couple of good years of use out of it.
I bought this a few months back and it's perfect for 986/996
It's not worth the time for wheel swaps though....I have 2 jacks to lift front n swap, then lift both rears n swap. Setting up the quickjack take a few minutes longer to do that.
It's very useful to swap axles which I did. Any suspension work and waterpump which I'll do nx year. coil/plugs will be so much easier also which I do every yr.
In my situation, can't get a lift due to height of garage so was a perfect fit.
I have one on order...looking forward to it.
Update: Actually, just got it from UPS this am....Costco shipped it immediately...ordered late afternoon of the 11th...delivered 11am on the 14th. Now, if only I didn't have to work today, I could put it together.
Slightly off topic, but anyone use the bag jacks? I assume you could put it in the middle like the 944 and lift the side, but now you have me wondering on the 996 and lift bars.
I've been eyeing one of these for my detailing business. Garage overall planned in the spring, hopefully, I can add one of these things to the tools at my disposal.
Will these lift the car high enough to pull the engine? Even if it did, I think I'd prefer a scissors lift I could walk under but they're very pricey.

I found a used one on craigslist but they company that made it isn't in business any longer.

By my calculations, QuickJack won't lift high enough to pull engine nor drop the transmission onto a transmission jack and pull it out on the jack. You might be able to drag the transmission out if you tip it enough to get the bell housing to clear the underside of the car.
The reason I opted for a quick jack is that every other solution has to be hard installed or requires a 220V circuit to run the pump PLUS I just had Flat6 Innovations fix everything I was going to drop the transmission for anyway. The first step of most work on a Carrera seems to be to jack it up. I used Rhino Jacks to change the oil, but they are too steep even my stock 996, plus I end up with the car not where I want it because I ended up having to back up the ramps. Heck, my 996 is too low for even my floor jack, so step 1 of lifting the car would be to drive up on 2x6s. The quick jack slides right under with no issue.
I know youll enjoy the convenience of the quick jack. I had a Herkukes pneumatic platform lift that I used for my 1980 911 SC. It worked great. Just doing simple stuff like oil changes was so much easier. When I moved I kept the old 911 but not the lift. It was just too heavy to move. As much as I liked it, I realized I rarely used it.
I had to purchase even lower profile blocks as the small blocks that were provided didn't clear....I'm lower very low
If you use SUV blocks that quickjack sells, you can lift the 996 high enough to pull motor/tranny
Don't discount out the Harbor Freight lift, have had mine a year and half now and works great for everything I got, 6000 lbs lift
cost me 1200 bucks with coupon. I did build the ramps to park the lowered car.
So you feel safe under a harbor freight lift? Actually, I've been working under four harbor freight aluminum jack stands. I like them but can't help but worry a bit. One of my first harbor freight tools was a wire stripper. The first time I used it, it just fell apart. Ever since then, until I bought their aluminum jack and jack stands, I've only bought stuff from them that I didn't care about.
Dave, I have not personally pulled motor and trans yet, I do plan to in the future, I've got a 02 C2 with IMS done already and 04 C2 that I plan to do the L&N Solution in the future, before I bought this lift I did talk one other on here with the same lift and he had done the job and to remember to put the car on the lift at the most rear position on the lift.
I have a 991 and a 944 turbo. No 996 but I was able to do an engine swap, and full exhaust install last week on my 944 turbo. I was only able to achieve the required 21" of clearance to drop the engine by purchasing the SUV adaptor kit directly from quickjack. Expensive at over $200, but very stout and worth it for the extra amount of height it provides. Perhaps it can help 996 owners with additional clearance.
Is it even possible to get the suv kit under the 996? I have yet been able to see anyone able to do an engine replacement with these on a 996 and that’s why I’ve never purchased one.
Hi
Im using the Quick Jack since a couple weeks now and I would not do most of my projects without it!
Just enough clearance to drop the engine but its not my type of work (Im not doing engine work except small projects like water pump, plugs, oil changes ect..)
Oh on a side note, the underbody panels, the ones on each side of the rockers are hard to remove if the car is on the Quickjack. Better take them off while the car is on the ground before starting a project that need these pieces out.
Brake jobs are awesone with this the ramps.
Working on the exhaust is also alot more fun.
Now that Im used to it, starting from 0 ,so the ramps are still stored in the garage, the car is lifted and the wheels are off in 35mins.
I always put jackstand under the ramps just in case the safety on the Quickjack would break especially when I take off the hydraulic pump.
A scissor lift would be a better investment if you have a perfectly flat shop floor in concrete and you dont need it to be easily transportable.
I almost forgot, I did have to run to Loews's and purchase several 2" boards cut down to about 12 inches. Lifted the 944t with the 5000 model (no problem) stacked 2 or 3 boards under the tires to get the height I needed and then lowered the car on them. After that, I installed the SUV adapters and lifted the car off the boards.
A little bit of a pain I guess, but not when you are doing an engine, exhaust, oil cooler, turbo etc.... lol
