Then, it's a good time to change all those vacuum lines, water pump, RMS, injectors, coolant tank (if original), inspect your Y-cable as they fail too.

Suggestion

Only about $60 for the part but a pain in the butt to replace with the engine in the car.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So doing about 75 mph in the interstate and i see a mass of white smoke from my car. So I head to the side and shut it down and come to a stop, After a minute I try to crank it but it just clicks. So I tow it to my house and i notice that there is no oil leaking but my oil gauge is like 4-5 clicks low. I take off my TB and there is a ton of oil in the intake manifolds and even in my exhaust. Is this a classic AOC issue or do you think there is a major problem. Engine is pulled out now and i will be taking it apart later today. Just fishing for ideas and things to look for.

POST 2Original post

AOS, and hydro locked from the sound of it. You may have dodged a bullet by it not starting again.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can a bad AOS really suck in that much oil? Is there anything on an AOS that when i pull it off i will know right away that it was the culprit?

POST 4Original post

Classic AOS failure. Replace AOS then clean it up, add oil and pull the spark plugs...cycle the engine with the starter to expel oil that reached the cylinders. I would first hand crank the engine after removing the spark plugs to make sure everything is turning correctly.

Oil in your intake is your confirmation. I just went through this a month ago.

POST 6Original post

Not only AOS directly ... also failing oil rerurn pump in one of the heads can cause the AOS being flooded and dumping vast amounts of oil in the intake. mod your AOS get rid of this Achilles heel

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'll check the scavenge pumps

POST 8Original post

Probably not the cause ... if it was, your engine is scrapnelled ... but it was just an example of what else could go wrong to cause the AOS do its magic and inject loads of oil straight in the inlet... kabooom

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 15925590

You seem reluctant in it being the AOS? You're the fourth or fifth person in the past two months to report the classic AOS failure symptoms.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No, not reluctant. I just want to check and overhaul everything i can while the engine is sitting on the floor instead of having to mess with it in the car.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 15925038

No, I can't see AOC having anything to do with the 996... However, yes, definitely sounds like AOS. Hopefully you'll get it resolved quickly! Mike

Yes, save the m96 engine has nothing to do with saving the planet from cows farting !!!

Then, it's a good time to change all those vacuum lines, water pump, RMS, injectors, coolant tank (if original), inspect your Y-cable as they fail too.

POST 16Original post

I put in the Motorsport AOS after that, no issues since. Worth it.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

took the plugs out and it spurt a massive amount of oil out of the #6 cylinder. Piston is nice and lubed up it seems
