Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am sure you will get it fixed with new bearings and IMS you look like you have an amazing mechanical knowledge.
Interesting option if someone was capable of rebuilding their own engine with bore scoring. Redoing the block from the Alusil lining to Nickel Silicon Carbide. Came across this company from the following ebay listing:

Nickel Silicon Carbide
So they will recoat the cylinder liners for $1149 on a Porsche M96 engine.

I think you'd have to combine this with those AL press fit cylinder supports the kind Hartech put in. It supports the open deck and stops the cylinders ovalizing. Good find
Redoing the cylinder liners is $1149 for the factory pistons. Its $1500 to bore them and recoat and another $1200 for the custom JE pistons for roughly $2,700.
I would personally consider JE pistons a better option over factory is what I meant.
I am reading your thread now on your engine rebuild awesome thread thanks for putting it together. I love the way you went through the high mileage engine and just did what was needed that is a similar style to myself. I That's frustrating the replacement IMS bearing you used went out would have loved to see how many miles the untouched short block could go. I am sure you will get it fixed with new bearings and IMS you look like you have an amazing mechanical knowledge. I am sure you know more than me on the Porsche engines. From my car knowledge which has been bmw engines for the past 15 years JE pistons are a superior one to even the oem forged ones.
Millenium has been around a while, they started out doing Nikasil on motorcross bike engines.
They do a lot of vintage bikes from what I see around my part of the woods.
Haven't used them,, I don't have a 2smoke any more,, but when my KYM 950 wears down
it will be on my list, two cylinder vtwin, its about 1/2 the cost of a 996 engine to rebuild..
(6 to 8 K depending on thw damages.. )
Evidentially the Fins share with the Germans.. LOL
