Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
No suggestions for how to update because it would involve a whole lot of changes, immobilizer, keys and programming, etc.
Leading evidence: 'Replace immobilizer, keys and programming, etc' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I have 2 other cars, but will use the 911 regularly just for the pleasure.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Shopping for my first Porsche purchase. Considering 2 1999 996 911 choices. Both dont have remote trunk opening as part of the remote unlocking feature.
Any suggestions on how to update this?
I for one appreciate the simple functionality of the 99 frunk cable release system. No suggestions for how to update because it would involve a whole lot of changes, immobilizer, keys and programming, etc. Learn to love the simple mechanical cable release....life is simple!
Unless I am mistaken, the 996.1 (1998-2001 era) have a cable release from a lever in the driver's sill and the 996.2 (2002+) have an electronic (switch/solenoid)release from the same location. I don't know of any 996.1 with an electronic release, but I've been wrong more often than I can remember...
Normally I would agree but it seems that the 996.1 latch is a common point of failure. I think I'm on my third in 15 years. Is the rest of the mechanism updated in the 996.2 as well?
First world problems.
I'd think you would still have to manually move the secondary catch.
FWIW, my 01 has a switch on the driver's door sill to electronically release the first catch. I'm not sure a mechanical release is any more prone to failure.
That sure does sound like a dealbreaker....
I think the 1999's still have the emergency release cable buried in the front somewhere. A lot of people report problems with the electric system or battery failure locking them out of the frunk and not having access to the e-release. Don't hear that on the cable release cars so much...
Yeah, this system seems to be problematic. I would keep this as analog as possible. And who cares about the trunk? I don't remember the last time I opened it. Especially in the AWD cars, it's not super useful.
I do, several times a week. I get groceries and put them in the frunk, it is very convenient. And went to Leslies for pool supplies, I got 1 large bag of DE and 2 bags of salt in there. And I take it to the home depot, and put things in the frunk. Much easier than trying to cram things in the back seats or cause wear and tear or staining on the passengers seat. And trips to the airport to pick up and drop off, most things fit in the frunk. The remote opening is very convenient. Mines a C4S AWD, no problem, I don't need a larger frunk. I have 2 other cars, but will use the 911 regularly just for the pleasure. But then I have never believed in this garage-queen / weekend-only business with Porsches, they are meant to be driven, try using them every day for all purposes, it's great.
My 2003 has remote/key fob unlock for the trunk, the other method is a button by the driver door sill where the seat adjustments are at, its also where the engine lid button is..
