Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. I just replaced my crankcase ventilation hose due to a small hole in the plastic hose that was dripping onto my right (passenger) side header and on very rare occassions onto the garage floor.

Oh...it isn't enough that he has an anally clean car....now he has to throw in the 34 inch waist bit to rub a little salt in the wounds.....I was considering doing this until I read the part about the 34 inch waist, now I know the job is impossible.

Actually, I can understand Orient's desire to "keep it clean guys"....I find myself with the same sort of feelings about the underside of my 930.....just a desire to be able to look under there and see things all in order and neat.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
The undercarriage of my '01 996 is rather filthly.
Also, I'm seeing one drop of oil time to time, never hitting the ground though (near right side headers). I've been trying to track it down but there is so little oil, is hard to see where is coming from with all the road grime down there.
Is there a particular product (engine cleaner) or doing by hand any of you can recommend to clean the bottom side of the engine?
Is there already a protective coating from the factory I should worry about to remove?
Thanks all.
Autozone sells some foaming engine cleaner [it might be a Simple Green product] that you can spray on [a cold engine] and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse. The foaming cleaner I like since itll stay put an not run/drip off as fast; that would be helpful for spraying on the underside in your case especially.
I havent had my C4S long enough to know what areas to keep the cleaner
off
on yet for fear of etching, but usually its polished aluminum that isnt cleared, which I dont think we have much if any of that on the M96. Also, the more recent Simple Green products, especially the automotive flavors, and pre-diluted to help prevent etching.
Having that area clean as you mentioned will let you more easily determine where the drip is originating.
If the underside of your car has several years of being a Cosmoline Queen, then mineral spirits, a stiff bristle brush, a pressure washer and lots of elbow grease are the products of choice.
Once you have all of the gunk removed, then Simple Green once or twice a year is all you need to keep the bottom looking as nice as the top. I also apply a layer of Rejex to the chassis and aerodynamic covers, take a little steel wool to the engine case, and polish the mufflers & headers with metal polish and an orbital buffer.
The end result comes out looking pretty good. Here is what the car looks like with 65,000 miles on it.

Gary is incredible!
I saw his p-car in a picture where the car was examinated by 3 referees in a Detail concours.... incredible!! I'm sure they couldn't find any tiny bit in the car
Gary does a great job in his car
The judges looked CSI Miami haha
NO Kidding,... If I could get up to a 34" I would be really happy. I am stuck at 32" since like Jr high... 34 isnt in the cards for me... but I can dream
I just replaced my crankcase ventilation hose due to a small hole in the plastic hose that was dripping onto my right (passenger) side header and on very rare occassions onto the garage floor. 99% of the leaking oil burned cooked on the header and other parts on right side of engine.
Actually, I can understand Orient's desire to "keep it clean guys"....I find myself with the same sort of feelings about the underside of my 930.....just a desire to be able to look under there and see things all in order and neat. My DD is another matter...just to much work to keep up on it.
+1
It's another way to enjoy. I've just come back from an oil change + filter.
The oil change is good for the car, but I spent a nice short while doing this task, cleaning the rims inside an doing a general checking.
The leak might be from the tube around the spark plug. Mine leaked when it was under warranty. The symptoms were like yours, a smell of oil burning when I got out of the car but no drips on the ground.
