It is starting to grow on me, I wish it was the "S".
Leading evidence: '"s"' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '"s"' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You may want to consider having the clutch replaced, though....you only have to pay for the part, no labor, since they are already in there under CPO..........just a thought.....

They do NOT have to change the oil to change the RMS.

Question: They will replace the oil and oil filter when they do this right?

So they want to replace the RMS under my CPO warranty.

After only 25,000 miles I'd be suprised that his clutch would need to be replaced, unless it's abused daily.I understand the reasoning but can't imagine such a short clutch life.

Turns out, my car has had the RMS done before (bought the car used CPO'ed) as edivence of a new kind of bolt used to button it up, but the OLD style seal was used?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

OK, my car had this done before I bought it, but it looks like it is back. Took my car to a "service event" (they serve lunch and let you tour the shop while they "courtesy inspection" your car) and while under my car they point out some oil moisture at the seal. Not enough to drip on my garage floor (I would have noticed) but enough to be accumulate at the seal site. So they want to replace the RMS under my CPO warranty.
Question: They will replace the oil and oil filter when they do this right? Want to know cause I am due for an oil/filter change and this would benefit me.
Oh and my high tone horn is out. The only two issues they found.
My car is a 2003 C4 6sp with 25,000 miles.

They won't change the oil for a rms seal and the clutch is barely broken in.
Have them change the seal asap, gives you more time with the new seal before your cpo runs out.
You would think....but....idiot me...who bought my 2002 with 21k miles, a CPO, but no ppi....the first time I really dug into second gear.....slip city....the clutch was 75% gone....luckily for me, my RMS needed repair (never thought you'd hear those words!!!)....I only bought a new clutch, and paid no labor.....I have no idea what the guy before me was doing, nor do I want to know......for now, the car runs amazingly!!!!
Here's a picture of it with a new clutch and RMS repaired!!
you can see another valued member of my fleet....my golf cart, with 5 spoke hubs!!!
Ok, here is an update; RMS service does NOT include and oil/filter change. A new clutch by itself would be a $2000 bill, if done at RMS service (which is covered under my warranty) a new cluch disk is $300. So at 25K I am having them check out my clutch (which I do have any complaints about) while they are in there. (hope that was not a mistake)
Turns out, my car has had the RMS done before (bought the car used CPO'ed) as edivence of a new kind of bolt used to button it up, but the OLD style seal was used? When did the new style seal come out? My RMS was done the first time early 2005 at 11,000 miles. Remember it is a 03 C4 with 25K now.
FYI, my loaner car is a 2008 Cayman with only 58 miles. Kinda slow and missing a gear. It's not an S, but I like the clutch pedal feel.
How much is left on your CPO? While they have the transmission down, ask them to take a look at the IMS. I had my RMS done 2 years ago. There was oil weeping last month and lo and behold, the IMS was now leaking. Luckily both were covered under extended warranty.
Ok, I am back and the Cayman now has another 45 miles on it. It is starting to grow on me, I wish it was the "S". I have never had so much fun with a loaner car, it feels wrong, but good. I am thinking of taking the rest of the day off.
I have about a year left on my CPO. What is the IMS?
I love the way the Cayman handles. If only it came with the 997 engine.
IMS = InterMediate Shaft
The IMS seal underneath the RMS and can leak oil. AFAIK, if the seal fails it can lead to serious consequences. If you do a search here and on renntech.org you will find a bunch of stuff. Some go so far as to recommend repairing the IMS seal prophylactically while doing the RMS at the same time as a precaution against future IMS problems. BTW, if they do repair the IMS, they will need a couple of quarts of oil, so if you're close, maybe an oil change would be in order.

a little far, b/c I just got my first ticket in about 5 years. Said I was 89 in a 65, but he knocked it down to 84 in a 65, because I told him I got a little carried away with a "loaner", he laughed. Not common for a DPS officer. I've had my 911 for a year and have not gotten a ticket, one day in a loaner and bam! I guess my K40 does save me sometimes.
Thanks for the info on the IMS, I will ask in the morning when I call for an update on the clutch and horn (horn may not be covered by the CPO...??? WTF)
Anyway, another day of "gettin sideways", I am thoroughly enjoying the lack of AWD.
