Suggestion

You should just use a rubber conditioner (I use Meguiars Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner) and wipe down/clean all the rubber connection point, like the top edge of the windshield, do the seals in the rear..this should help some as MikeZ said, most of the noise comes from the contact points rubbing....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

With the top up there is a slight squeaky noise when I drive across bumps...would something like WD-40 sprayed at the joints of the convertible top be ok to fix the issue? any suggestions?

POST 2Original post

Top down or add a PSE will help. Short of that, BMW has a product called Gummy Pfledge (not sure of the spelling) which is a lite sticky grease you would put on the rubber contact points. The noise usually comes from the contact points with the wind shield.

POST 4Original post

Do not use WD40. It works for a while, until it doesn't and then the problem seems to come back twice as worse as before. For the metal joints, go with a white lithium grease spray, USE the straw attachment, and be mindful of overspray onto any cloth interior portions as it can sometimes stain. Using a towel can help stem overspray. For the rubber seals, I have had good success just using Armor All and applying liberally every time the car is washed. There are more expensive rubber lubes out there but they never worked that much better in my opinion.
