Suggestion
You need to either replace the front bumper with a factory non-aero one and remove the side skirts, or replace the front bumper with the Aero Kit I bumper and add a wing to the car.

I'm thinking that I should possibly just replace the nose.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Ok, so I may/may not be selling my '99 996. In the meantime, I have 3-4 inch chip taken out of the front lower air splitter. The estimate to remove/repaint/restore is $1,500. The lower air splitter is fiberglass and was attached and molded onto what I believe is the standard nose so it looks like one unit.
I'm thinking that I should possibly just replace the nose. The question then is with what ? There are soooo many possibilities. I would prefer an aggressive look that goes with the rest of the car. I do not, however, want to "convert" it to something it's not.
Helpful suggestions appreciated. Here's some pics.
Thanks
Ramp,
it really looks much bigger than a 3~4 inches chip. That additional piece attached to the factory bumper is way wrong IMHO and fiberglass
. You have side skirts but no wing. You need to either replace the front bumper with a factory non-aero one and remove the side skirts, or replace the front bumper with the Aero Kit I bumper and add a wing to the car. This would not be too agressive but right now your car is not agressive except for that thing attached to the bottom of the front bumper.
Well I just went to Suncoast and it looks like they do not carry the Aero Kit I anymore (
http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...Code=POTE996EX
), just the side skirts. I also went to MA SHAW and I could not find it either (
http://www.mashaw.com/html/product_info.html
). So it looks like it is even harder to find the Aero Kit I which is designed for '99~'01 996's. But keep looking around because I am sure you can still find stuff, just don't get fiberglass for bumpers, especially the front one.
There a couple of OEM Aero/GT3 MK I bumper covers on Ebay now as well as some MK II "style" for the early cars.

No affiliation w/ the seller(s), just passing on some info.
Just put a GT3 front bumper on there and you're good to go. It'll look good combined with your side-skirts.
There's no problem having a front aero bumper and no rear-wing. The other way around would be really bad though.
What's the prob w/ fiberglass ? Ive spoken with Precision Porsche and they have a bunch of different nose options - I'll post those soon for opinions - but he advised that with the exception of the turbo look version, they are all fiberglass.
Thanks fr all the help !!
Still need to know if I should stay away from fiberglass.
Here's pics of what I'm looking at from Precision Porsche.
Can I have some votes ? Thanks !!

In all honesty, does my front end look bad (aside from the chip) ?
I think I also like the GT3 the best -aggressive, but not too much. But, Precision Porsche's is fiber - will have to search . If anyone knows another source, let me know
Thanks
Asking that questions is like when you wife asks you the dreaded question "Honey, does this dress make my *** look fat?" Well, over the years I have figured out there are a few different answers to that question, and only one is the right answer.
1. No, your *** looks fat all by itself! It doesn't need the dress to get that look!
2. Why the hell are you trying to blame it on the dress?
3. No, that dress looks good on you!
OK, seriously, no one here said your current bumper looked bad. You asked us for our opinions on different bumper selections, which is what you got. Personally, I don't think your *** looks fat... oh, wait.... You are not my wife..... I mean... I don't think your front-end look bad.
However, the lines of your bumper do not match the lines of your side skirts. IMO, the GT3 MK I version (not the '04 GT3 version you showed us, which is MK II) will match the lines of the Mk I side skirts very well. Take a look at
TheSpeedDemon's
sig. He has MK I bumper and skirts. Here is a link to some good pics of his bumper and skirts and you can see what I'm talking about.

Ultimately, do what YOU want because it's your car and your money. If you like it, DO IT!
Hope this helps!
here's a close up of the Precision Porsche fibreglass mkII version and how it would look with your mkI side skirts. I would recommend the poly (only mkI avail. for pre facelift) vs the fibreglass as far as durability. I do like the looks of the MkII better though.
