BTW, you can buy a replacement microswitch at Radio Shack for about $3, and repair the latch yourself, but you still have to disassemble the door to remove the latch.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I'm having some problems with my door locks on a 2001 Porsche 996 C2. For some reason when I use the keyless entry remote it locks only the driver side. I locked the car manually and only the drivers side locks not passenger side what's going on here? Any suggestions? I tried to arm the alarm the red light flashes above the dash panel, I am not hearing anything just flashing emergency lights on the side amber color. Could it be a fuse or relay? Can I do this myself to test or bring it in to a specialized shop? Need some expert advice on what to do. Also what book under $75.00 is really good for the 996? Thank you

I have no idea, But what an intresting way to spell your name. Welcome to the board

POST 4Original post

Sounds like the door lock Solenoid on the passenger door is malfunctioning. I would pull the pass door skin and verify the solenoid is getting a lock signal. If it is then you have found the problem. If not, then you need to backtrack from there. I haven't looked at the wiring schematics but I suspect the system will not arm if the system doesn’t detect the door locking.

POST 5Original post

Another cause could be that the door latch position microswitch is busted and is reporting to the central locking system that the door is in the open position even though it is closed. The microswitch is located in the bottom of the door latch, and with the latch is closed, it closes the microswitch. This design is shared with Audi & VW latches and is notorious for failing. If it fails in the closed position, the symptoms are that the courtesy lights for that door will not come on, and if it is the drivers door, the "key-in" chime will not work, and if you open the door, put the key in the ignition, and then close the door without turning the key on, the car will lock all of the doors. If the switch fails with the switch in the open position, it will give a symptom like what you are experiencing. The part is under $150, but you have to almost completely disassemble the door to replace it. You are looking at least 2-3 hours labor BTW, you can buy a replacement microswitch at Radio Shack for about $3, and repair the latch yourself, but you still have to disassemble the door to remove the latch.

If your windows and interior dome light are also out. Check the fuse (c3).
