Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm unable to release the lid unless someone holds the lever up for me. Once it's down again, it locks down the lid. There isn't any visible damage and the car is in great shape - no exposure to the elements. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Is it a loose bolt? It's tough to see. Thanks in advance for any help. I have an appointment with a shop next Tuesday to fix it. But, I'd like to try to fix it myself.

POST 2Original post

The strut is probably dead, it cant raise the lid enough to disengage the latch. A second thing you can try is screwing the adjusters at the corners of the lid one way or another and see if it aids in unlatching. I would just make sure that the body lines are maintained.

POST 3Original post

I'm confused...is it that the hood does not stay up when in the open position? If so you need new pneumatic springs. If it is the latch there is an adjustment that can be made, see here: RennTech latch link

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply - but, there's a misunderstanding. The lid (the rear area with the spoiler on it) lifts fine. It's just the release that is located to the left of my driver's seat that seems to be the problem - either at the lever next to my seat, or at the hardware that locks the lid closed. In comparison, the trunk release lever can be lifted with a noticeable click that results in the trunk lid popping up a fraction of an inch. Does that make sense? It's tough to explain since "the hood" has always been the word I use to describe a front-engine car. Bob

POST 5Original post

Loosen the 2 bolts holding the latch to the body and move it up slightly and then retighten. Also, use Mobil 1 0W40 for what it was intended for and put a little of it on the latch.
