Nice to hear you had few issues with your 911, you certainly 'used' your Porsche based on the mileage.
Use intercity and my gawd was it a great experience

Nice ride but you better adjust the passenger mirror

I just hope he doesn't take it to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change...oh and before he drove off he wanted to know how to put up the spoiler because it looks "cooler."

When I was taking him for a test drive and explaining to him how sweet those Fabspeed by-pass pipes sounded, or how fun it is to take it to redline, or....he cut me off he wasn't interested in any of that...he just wanted to know the gas mileage and if regular gas was ok to use?!
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all:
I don't know why but I sold the 911. After many years of faithful service and almost 100,000 miles on the odometer she is gone. It was a great car....the engine never blew up, the RMS never leaked, she drove like new...never any rattles, never left me stranded--ok it left me stranded once but that was it. She is missed already....and I actually almost canceled the deal when I met the buyer. Well, life goes on and I do have a question. I am getting a 1997 Ferrari F355. It is in North Carolina and I was wondering if any of you guys used Express Auto Transport. They quoted me a price of $1340 for door to door service on an enclosed trailer. Sounds really cheap, just wanted to make sure if these guys had a good reputation.
I'll drive it out there for you for a plane ticket home and expenses along the way (guaranteed not to exceed $1335). And you pay any speedeing tickets.
oops. I hope you know what you are doing. I could say hundreds of bad things about that car but I think I will only wish you good luck and congratulations.
Why do you think so? I have worked for Ferrari, loved all the models and yet I am not interested at all in having one and I can tell you the reason why...

Just out of curiosity, what are some of the big reasons you would never own a F-car? It seems like the stepping stone up for many P-car owners...
Wow, that is tough. The main reason I dont blame Tim for trying to sell his to a Rennlister first. But if you gotta sell, sometimes its just the first douche bag with the money!
Nice to hear you had few issues with your 911, you certainly 'used' your Porsche based on the mileage. Just a case of seller's remorse I'd say. Good luck with the F355, sounds like you'll forget about the sale once you're in the Ferrari. Good luck!
I doubt it. He had no trouble with his 911. Something tells me he will be cussing his 355 and lamenting his 911 sale. This coming from someone who is also looking for an F355. I am looking at it for a 3rd car that I know is one of the least reliable Ferrari has ever built which is quite an accomplishment. They are beautiful though, and knowing what you're getting into beforehand is key.
Yes I'm actually quite nervous about the ownership experience. I've gone back and forth so many times but it has been a dream car ever since it came out. I'm very curious to see how reliable/un-reliable this thing is. The car has a complete PPI done; I pored over all the service records; and it is from a very reputable shop. I do have the $10K reserve fund for mainetenance/service issues and unlike my 911 it will be strictly a weekend toy. I'm still questioning what I got myself into but I know once I see it that should be gone.....hopefully...would love to be in another Porsche if I had the garage space and the money.
Yes. You pressed the right button skiracer!! That's exactly the opposite of what I have in mind. IMO Porsche is the stepping stone to a Ferrari owner - not the contrary. The top of the pyramid for me is Porsche not Ferrari (generally speaking of course, I'm not comparing any particular model). Back in the late 80's and early 90's I was fascinated by Ferrari. But to my pain (at the time) I began to realize that Porsche was far superior on many things like engineering, manufacture quality, reliability and practicability (yes, I'm aware that they have improved) and the most important: the concept. It was very very tough for me then to admit that. Believe me. But I made that step and surrender to the German Enemy. Some have laughed on my face. Nowadays a Ferrari is a car that doesn't excite me. I have changed my tastes.
Today I see Ferrari as a luxury, exotic and aristocrat sports car. And I hate that. What I like in Porsche philosophy is that they don't give a damn about this kind of concerns. The goal of Porsche is being just a sports car. And they do that supremely. And maybe the flashy almighty trendy Ferrari owners, one day will realize this. So, for me, if I want a better car, if I want to climb on the rope I will search for a better Porsche. Because there is no substitute.
Ferrari's are actually pretty reliable, they just cost more to maintain than P-cars.
Sorry but one of the most intoxicating automotive sounds you will ever hear is a 355 with a tubi at 8500 rpm.
355 are known for bad valve guides (mostly early cars 95-97) they have thin exhaust manifolds that tend to crack, and the tops on the spiders can be a PITA.
Engine out services get costly and Ferrari now recommends replacing the timing belt every 3 years regardless of miles accrued, although it used to be 5 years.
At a cost of around $5,000 just for the timing belt service , it can add up quickly.
One way of owning a Ferrari on the cheap is to do the work yourself, there are quite a few DIYers on Ferrarichat who own 355's.
Wow, I see that you have put a lot of thought into it, and I applaud you for it.
I always wanted a Ferrari, but my recent research helped me understand those people that buy Porsche Turbos, SL55 AMG, CL 55 AMG over similarly priced Ferrari, Bentley GT, Aston Martin. The latter cars are super cars that require high maintenance and too flashy to be driven every day. And so I see myself going up the Porsche models to C4, C4S, Turbo, etc.
But if money were no object, and if I could splurge about half mil on cars, a Ferrari would definitely be on the list.
Cheers
THought I update everyone. I ended up using Intercity and my gawd was it a GREAT experience. Driver called me on pickup and gave me daily updates on where he was. Car ended up coming to me in 4 days coast to coast very impressed.
My neioghbor lives up a tall hill from me and has an early 80's Ferrari Mondial. When he starts that thing up and revs the engine to about 6,000 it just crackles down the hill. Sounds like an F-1 racecar. Unfortunately for him my C4 looks alot better and I drive mine more than twice a year.
Mc_Renn's Ferrari is on the other hand very attractive.
i don't know why everyone's bickering about porsche this and ferrari that.
from a driving experience/fun standpoint coupled with style, the ferrari annihilates the 911. the only thing on par would be the cgt, but then that thing gets trumped by the enzo. and it all comes down to what you're comfortable with. if you can handle the flash (I can and gladly do), the ferrari is it. people know it costs more $. it's much more rare. it sounds insane. i want one!
congrats, bud. let us know how you feel driving that thing.
the oldest i'd go is the 360, but i admit that the F355 still looks very very nice and sounds delicious. the interior, though, is hella dated.
The car is amazing. I fell in love with it when it first came out and still remember reading the article in Car and Driver in my college dorm room. The biggest difference between a 996 has to be how low the 355 is. I mean you are looking UP at people in Camry's. I feel like I'm sitting on the floor. But surprisingly easy to drive, clutch is pretty light, the gated shifter is a little quirky. Not that easy to shift when cold but feels a lot better after it's been warmed up. It's also not as quick shifting and has rather long throws but hearing that metal clack when u shift sounds great. Very raw car, it's loud and it sounds soooooo good, revs very easy and a joy to bring it up to 8000 rpms. But unlike a Porsche I can't see myself using it as a daily driver.
Man, I've been in love with Ferraris since I first saw one as a kid.
Nothing on the road sounds as good as a Ferrari. I wouldn't care if someone next to me on the road/track had the faster car- I would be in heaven with my screaming engine, and having a heck of a lot more fun.
Congrats on the Ferrari- looks great.
the only time i've been in an F355 is passenger side of doug hayashi's same red F355 F1 (of

fame) just blasting around newport beach.
great sound, awesome looks. again, congrats. i can totally imagine how i'd feel picking up my first ferrari. "you have arrived"
i love the design of that thing. i'd slam it on a set of bbs LMs or OZ 3s.
yea and a loud tubi.
Ferrari is my dreamcar.....don't care about cost or reliability......if you got the guts and the money to own one (and park it on the street when you are going to somewhere) you got to be the luckiest man in the world.
Goodluck and keep us updated with pics and driving reports!!
