Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

63 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Selling my 2002 996 (have a 997S on order): Two owner car; engine just replaced under Porsche CPO warranty (brand-new, from Germany). Only 500 break-in miiles on new lump. Well optioned for daily enjoyment (original window sticker was 85K!), but also well prepped for DE driving Factory/Convenience options: Metallic paint; Full leather interior (including dash); Litronic Headlights (had special alarm installed to prevent theft); Power, heated, memory seats; Porsche Stability Management; Alpine Radio with Sirius/IPOD (original radio also incl) DE helpers: B&M Short Shifter; H&R Springs; Steel braided brake lines; Newly installed Sachs clutch and Lightweight flywheel; Two sets of wheels: 997 Carrera S and original 18" My daily driver. Fun DE car.

POST 2Original post

Car sounds nice....but throwing out a price and total mileage would satisfy the most pressing questions that everyone is going to have....Best of luck with your sale.

POST 3Original post

Actually no. Buying a $17 Rennlist membership would satisfy the members. it is against forum rules for non-members to advertise items for sale.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4758383

70,000 miles. 500 miles on the new engine, all below 4000 RPMs. 2000 miles on the new clutch/flywheel. Make an offer; car will be traded-in otherwise when new car gets here. Have all books and records. Florida car.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 4758516

Yup, my second one in two days!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 4758453

Thanks! Welcome to Rennlist - good luck selling the car. How about some pics?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 4758450

No problem. easy to do. It's that time of year (end of the driving season) when they come out of the woodwork to sell their cars. It's funny, Dell made a comment a couple of months ago about whenever he saw someone posting their car to sale it had become a reflex to look if they had become a member as so many of the posts are from non-members. I now find myself doing the same thing. Pretty sad. I wish it were not the case.

POST 12Original post

When you consider the size of the membership that your ad gets out to, the $17 is a hell of a lot cheaper than an ad in the SF Chronicle or Sacramento Bee. Plus the fact it goes out to a Porsche focus group.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 4758763

Yup, it's a bargain - sell your car and get access to more Porsche experience than you will find anywhere outside Stuttgart.

POST 14Original post

Quotes source post: 4758585

Ditto, sad but all too true!

POST 16Original post

^ Cool pic! Usually the "action shots" are from far away. I hope the photographer wasn't injured getting this shot.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 4758846

Oh my... THAT'S A GREAT SHOT!!! JD

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 4762245

Hey John, I guess you have a little more time to participate "onstage" these days instead of "watching from the wings?"

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 4762328

Yep I'm still doing all the ADMIN mail and tech support for now (I seem to get a LOT of e-mail - especially AFTER the announcement??!!??!! ) - BUT - I have to tell you... In the evenings - I just pop on as "me", which was how the site started almost 11 years ago. And you know what? It sort'a feels pretty good... However - that guy "Wellardmac" still scares me a bit - but..... Tim - my thanks.... John

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 4762358

Congrats on the increased free time.... although I'm a little concerned that I would scare you. ...now if you had met me that would be a different matter.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 4762413

Trust me - I'm not alone in that sentiment.. LOL!!!! Best to ya' Wellardmac!!! JD

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 4762428

That's okay then. I've always been of the philisophy that having people a little afraid of you is healthy. ...on Rennlist it helps me and Tim keep everyone in line.

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 4762438

Careful what you say... I can still make Tim and you Mods.... JD

POST 25Original post

Quotes source post: 4762459

I spend enough time here - may as well help out if you need me to.

POST 26Original post

I would - but I would be "very afraid...." OK - let me check with the other Mods on this forum (actually - WHO DOES MOD this Forum???) Hang on (checking.....)... Holy smokes - I AM THE ONLY MOD ON THE 996 FORUM???? No wonder you and Tim are out'ta control..!!! HEH!!!!!! JD

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 4762490

Ahh, so now that you have more time this place might be less of a wild west town

POST 28Original post

Actually - faszinated..?? I owe an apology.. Seems we hi-jacked your thread... (that's the bad news...) The good news is - it's always "bumped" to the top as Wellardmac & I trade quips... BTW: Wellardmac - ...wild west town... ?? The servers sits in my office. It's East of just about everything.. I dunno about the "wild west"..?? JD

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 4762513

Muahahah!! BTW, come on, wild west is about right - New Hampshire - Live Free or Die?!?! It's a pity that I didn't have my Porsche when I lived across the border from you in Mass. (I was in Tewksbury) - I would have had fun dragging you along to some back road drives.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 4762522

LOL!!!!! The only way you'd be "dragging me" is if you stuffed me in a trailer.. BTW - if you "drove your car" at NHIS, The Glen, LRP or where-ever - I'm pretty sure that was your car in my rear-view mirror.... JD

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 4762636

Hehehe If only. I'd love to be in your rear view mirror (that would mesan that I was able to keep up with you!). Phil G has this thing about not wanting to put miles in his C4S, sadly my curse is the paranoia of messing up my paint work by putting my car on the track. The closest I get are my backroad rollercoaster drives. It's hard to beat the thrill of taking those curvy backroads at speed.

POST 32Original post

I think he should lower that car and take another pic before he sells it

POST 33Original post

Quotes source post: 4762490

OK, that explains EVERYTHING! No wonder we kept getting the "one hit wonders" (as I call them) that would post something for sale on their 1st or 2nd post and no one but the "inmates" would say anything. That is why I volunteered to be a Mod, if only to stop the non-Member For Sale threads.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4762783

It is lowered. Have plenty of pics:

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I joined in 2004, BTW. My first post was not this For Sale thread. Never realized membership was so cheap . . . . until a psychopath with a space suit, a white Porsche, and 3500 posts in the last 18 months pointed out my faux pas.

POST 36Original post

Quotes source post: 4762989

Hell, I wasn't aware you knew Wayne! Hey Wayne, I'm glad you got to him first, otherwise I would have been "the psychopath with Blue Porsche, and 7,100 posts in the last 30 months!"

POST 37Original post

Quotes source post: 4762957

Nice pic. I have one just like it of my old 911, but that's the first I've seen of a 996 with the wheel in the air. Blew up your motor eh? Are you blaming the track time or...?

POST 38Original post

Well I can see that it has lived a very tame life of trips to the mall and back. You have just been PMed

POST 40 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4763597

Orient Red Metallic. Uncommon color, but always gets compliments.

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 4763236

It blew up on the track, but I blame the wet sump, not the location

POST 43Original post

Good luck with the sale. Hey John I could be moderator for the 996 forum. (In the history of bad ideas where does this rank?)

POST 44Original post

Quotes source posts: 4764876, 4764876

Hi Riad..!! You certainly "could" be a Moderator for the 996 forum! However - only one thing stands in your way... That one thing??? ME You mean "bad ideas" posted on Rennlist - or "bad ideas" I've encountered through life..?? Let me think for a sec... OK - I'm done thinking (took less than a second). Your idea will be the bar by which I measure all future "bad ideas"... I can see it now - the announcement..... "For those of you still not banned - I am pleased to announce the new 996 Forum Moderator..." My best to you Riad..!!! JD

POST 45Original post

John, I've got a better idea. Make us all mods!! Just think a forum full of all chiefs and no indians..... How does this rank on your new "Riad idea bar"???

POST 47Original post

Sorry John, I couldn't resist This may not be the best direction, but it would be interesting...

POST 48Original post

Quotes source post: 4765095

MAJOR THREAD HIJACK!! cong~~~~~ to new mod.

POST 49Original post

We need a "New Mod Poll" In addition to the nominations of Tim, Riad, and Wellardmac I think Phil would make a good mod (He doesn't waste time driving so he will have plenty of time to monitor RL). Tim, if you become a mod will you keep the car?

POST 50Original post

Holeee Smokers....... Faszinated - personally, I am so sorry about this clear, unadulterated, unabashed and apparent hi-jack of your thread!! (Well - it is getting a lot of reads - but, well, you know... I warned you it would keep getting bumped...!! ) Unfortunately - if you have sold your car - we will carry on in your FS thread (until I can find a MOD to close it.. Oh wait - that's me!! ).... Seriously - good luck with your sale!!! BTW: Remind me to NEVER post my '02 996 for sale with me posting in my own thread.... BTW2: Oh wait - I don't have an '02 996 - or any 996? (It's not for lack of wanting however)... Carry on....... And someday - I will own a car just like this (which is the one for sale - and a stunning pic..) John D.

POST 51Original post

john, it must been too much fun posting as a "playa" i know u watching this game from a distance for too long. to OP great car, and good luch with the sale!

POST 52Original post

Quotes source post: 4765484

Only if I get a "real" job (a.k.a. one that pays) first!

POST 53Original post

Quotes source posts: 4765484, 4765484

Yeah, but the problem with Phil being a Moderator is that after the first week, he would probably log on as the MOD about as often as he drives. Hell, in the long run we would see less of him than we have seen of John D. over the past year. Only if I get a "real" job (a.k.a. one that pays) first!

POST 54Original post

Quotes source post: 4765638

Somehow - I think I just got a back-handed slap of "Welcome Back!"....??? JD

POST 55Original post

Quotes source post: 4765539

Honestly??? Over the past years - I've been to busy trying to "catch up" in the background to really enjoy the site and the folks. From the announcement last week - and after over 10 years - it's time, just for me - at a selfish level - to just get back to what I have loved and enjoyed for over 30 years (yea' - I've owned Porsches for that long - and all have been my daily drivers)... It just feels nice to be home, I guess?? And, as well - I guess it shows... Thanks.... JD

POST 56Original post

Just curious, where was that picture taken?

POST 57Original post

What in the blue hell is going on?!?!? I'm away for a day and all hell breaks loose. Phil, mod?

POST 58Original post

Quotes source post: 4766353

996 forum is risky business. u can't never assume and ignore any threads. like this one, like the other "deleted thread"

POST 59Original post

Quotes source post: 4766353

Yeah, I can see it now. Any time someone started a "Who has the most miles on their 996?" thread, Phil would have it locked down tight immediately and put the original poster on "vacation" for two weeks!
