Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My starter is sluggish at times. Sometimes it turns and fires right away and then sometimes it seems that it doesn't have the power to roll the motor over and fire it. It doesn't seem to be the battery as it doesn't occur every time I crank it. Plus, the lights, etc are dim as if the battery were bad. From my experience with other vehicles, I am almost certain it's the starter, but I guess am hoping and praying not. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meant to say the lights, etc AREN'T dim. Sorry

POST 3Original post

My experience with cars in general is that it's usually something to do with the battery. Cables loose? Is it old? If you have the right meter, test the battery. If not, and it's older than 4 years, drop $100 on a new one and see if it cures your problem. Everything else is more expensive. Also check out Renntech.org, where you'll find more-informed answers.

POST 4Original post

Only takes a few minutes and $50 to get new battery. Unless it is a new battery, seems to me that just getting a new one rather than fretting about it would be the first thing to do. Or switch it with a battery from one of your other cars.

Thank you very much for your time and advice!

POST 6Original post

Sometimes my starter feels the same way. It'll start right away, but it sounds like the starter doesn't turn over very well. I talked to my indy (All German Auto), and had them test everything out from alternater to battery to starter, and they said it all looked good. It used to make me uneasy, but now I don't think about it anymore. It almost has the sound of a car whose battery is about to go or gone. You know that sound: "Whuuuu whuuuuu whuuuuuuuuu wh.." then dead. Well, mine goes: "Whuu" then it starts right up. I think the sound is what made me uneasy, but it's working fine. Hope everything is alright on yours also.

I had EXACTLY those symptoms. No other problems with electricals, just the engine didn't start well - as mentioned by all the fellow posters above, in my case it was also the battery.
