I drove one with it and it does change the nature of the beast to a more involved type of driving, more frequent shifting is required.

I couldn't use the harness of that car because it had been severed in front of the firewall.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Attached is a picture of the donor car that I'm getting the dashboard parts off to rebuild my project car. It's hard to believe there is anything usable on this sad looking 996 shell. This car is three levels up. It was amazing to watch it being lowered back down to the ground. The front wiring harness should work fine on my car with the exception of one problem....this car did not have traction control. I bought a good traction control switch from a neighboring salvage yard. I will also get the recepticle that it plugs into plus a few inches of the wiring. I couldn't use the harness of that car because it had been severed in front of the firewall. I will have to run the four wires that connect to the traction control switch seperate from the harness. On a 99 non egas 996 I believe the traction control is connected to the brake master cylinder. Does anybody know exactly where I will need to run the four wires for the traction control??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Loren, thanks once again for you willingness to share your pcar knowledge. You are an asset to this forum.

POST 4Original post

I have to say that you are very brave with such an undertaking as this. I've followed your progress and pics so far and commend your attitude towards getting the task done.

POST 5Original post

yea, he did an excellent job with the previous pcar.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Barn and Carlos, thanks guys.

POST 7Original post

Mfletch-- How many salvage cars have you done, and did you ever reach a point when you decided you hit the proverbial wall?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Barn, that's a good question. I started with my Vesuvio 996, talked my Dad into a 2000 Jaguar XJR (the work was already done...he loves it), a 99 Mercedes SL600 ( gave it to Dad and upgraded to an 01 SL600 for wifey), 03 BMW 330i ( clear title but needed work due to accident damage), 05 Range Rover (also clear title with work needed due to accident damage), and finally my Iris Blue 996 project. I think I may have hit the wall now (at least until I sell a couple and the next "bargain" comes along). Redridge, your car is the inspiration for my work on the Iris Blue car. I would love to make it a clone of yours. Your's has everything....a beautiful, unique color, the MK1 aerokit, tasteful interior upgrades, and the power of a GT2. I know that I'm going to have to replace the clutch soon on the Iris Blue 996. Do you have a LWFW? Would you recommend it? Mine will already have every mod possible for a NA 996. Thanks.

Mfletch your to kind, As for the LWFW, I dont have it but, as soon as my clutch goes I will put one in. I drove one with it and it does change the nature of the beast to a more involved type of driving, more frequent shifting is required. I will also put a heavier duty clutch becuase of the extra power the SC puts out.
