I ran the 225/285 combo for several years on my CAB and it was great.

Suggestion
If you want to stay with lightweight wheels, I'd recommend sacrificing the "cheap" part of the equation and go with BBS (or other higher end wheels that are made for the track).

I am actually thinking about finding a good front on ebay to replace the bent one (that I had straightened) and going to rim fixing place to take care of the rashes then pop those bad boys on ebay.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

You don't mention size above, and they are not Carrera lightwieghts. but I there is someone on the Pelican board selling a set of used BBS magnesium track wheels. This is from his add "SELLING A SET OF USED 18" BY 9" FRONTS AND 18" BY 11" rears BBS forged monoblock magnesium wheels".
I'm not affiliated with the seller, simply passing on the info.
They're listed on the classifieds in the misc. parts section.
They seem pretty cheap for what they are.
I have a set but it had one totally F*&cked up (bent) rim and some serious road rash on some others. I am actually thinking about finding a good front on ebay to replace the bent one (that I had straightened) and going to rim fixing place to take care of the rashes then pop those bad boys on ebay. The carrera II's are my fav 996 rim.
I personally don't recommend the 5-spoke wheel for track use based on my rather expensive and unpleasent experiences with them bending VERY easily. If you want to stay with OEM wheels, I'd recommend sacrificing the "lightweight" part of the equation in favor of structural rigidity. Buy solid spoke turbo twists. If you want to stay with lightweight wheels, I'd recommend sacrificing the "cheap" part of the equation and go with BBS (or other higher end wheels that are made for the track).
The 5 spokes don't solve the trade-off & compromise dilemma of using a street wheel on the track.
I started off on the track with 5 spokes. I bent a wheel here, broke a wheel there.... after buying 7 replacements in 2 years, I got tired of buying disposable 5-spoke wheels and stepped up to the plate and bought a set of BBS wheels. My BBS wheels have taken punishment that would have annihilated the 5 spokes and they're still true!
I still have a set of 5 spokes, but they only see the streets.
Hey chad, not offering them up for sale, just commiserating and adding my 2 cents. To those who offfered to buy indiv rims, sorry I gave the impression I was trying to move them. I kinda like a ton of rims in my garage... lol
My favorite track wheels for the CAB were the MkI GT3 wheels (sport design). The fronts though are 7.5 not 8. The rears are 10. They are exactly what you are looking for if you can live with the 7.5 vs. 8 front. I'd let 'em go REAL CHEAP as they are just taking up space in the garage since we don't track the CAB anymore and they don't fit the GT3.
They are straight and true just to perfect cosmetically, hence the "real cheap" line. Let me know if you want pics, etc..
A tad, but strong a heck! And they are a 2 piece wheel as well. The 5 spoke lightweight, while nice, are not a good choice for the track. Not even close to the strength of a forged wheel.
Hey, that's a GOOD thing! You know th old saying, "a bird in the hand......"
BTW - it would be helpful to others if you weigh the wheels when they come in. I don't think I have ever seen anyone post the weight of Sport Design wheels. I can't wait to see them on your car!
yeah, mine have tires attached right now, so it would be hard to say - although I did see a webpage with the weights of various tires on it, I'll see if I can find it later.
I know that the sport designs are lighter than the turbo twists that I currently have.
This is a good read. Someone posted wheel weights there and I added more to it.

18" Sport Designs
7.5" Front 26.5lbs
10" Rear 30lbs
The sport designs are cast and they do have a 8" option (rare find though).

I currently have 02 5 spokes and have been on the track with them. I think I hit the burms pretty hard since the car got a little air. The wheel still balances when I have new tires mounted. Can those who had these wheels break/fail give more specifics details on the track and situation? I'd like to know if I'm running on "borrowed time" with these wheels.
Got it. I'll respond to all the PM's later today as I have somebody that was already interested. I'll need to shoot off some pics to that individual and then I'll have an answer.
Not really rare. Wheel Enhancement currently has them in stock for $3280 (price as of last weekend when I requested it). Contact Dave martin and he can give more info.
Wheelenhancement aside, most sets I have seen (craigslist, ebay, rennlist, etc...) from other people have been 7.5/10. It's a little more work to get a 7.5/10 set and then immediately have to trade up the 8" fronts. The extra shipping costs bump up the total cost.
While it would be good to get the 8" fronts, the 7.5/10 setup isn't bad at all. You just run the 225/265 or 225/285 combo. I ran the 225/285 combo for several years on my CAB and it was great.
Jeezus...I knew Wheel Enhancement was rather proud of their wheels, but DAYUM. When I can go buy a set of forged wheels WITH tires from Tire Rack for $3500...give me a break.

No...not really. Most of Porsche's wheel are cast. Forged is the only way to fly, hombre...
When a wheel weighs in at over 25 lbs, it is does not help the suspension reaction and handling characteristics. Believing that Porsche wheels are best is no longer the case. Back in the day, when Fuchs (true Forged wheels, BTW) were around, I would believe that 150%. No today. Not anymore.
Porsche as a company has cut some corners over the years to reach new levels in the profit margins department.

So a set of 2-piece, cast wheels that weigh in at almost 30#..are over $4200 for a set with tires?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHA
C.
When I can get a set of these; forged, and weight about 20# with a set of Yokohama Advan track tires for $3600 (quoted).
And then...For an extra $260, I can have them powder coated black.
hmmm....let me think on this.
C.
Chad, Don't know how much you still read the BMW boards but lots of guys are moving to these wheels and like them very much. Still a bit spendy for me for track wheels but they are nice.
Back to the 5-spokes for a second. Are you guys bending fronts, rears, or are they both fragile?
