I like the look of that shifter, actually had something similar in my miata (shape wise at least, but not as high quality), but I preferred the taller fatter shape and eventually changed back.

Suggestion

I will be changing back to my sport shifter then!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am thinking of upgrading my standard shift ****, to the fatter **** with the aluminum inset and logo, and possibly the matching handbrake handle. There are several on eBay, but the part numbers they show are not (or at least I cannot find them) in the PET. Am I missing something??? Could these be older or outdated numbers that have since been changed?

POST 2Original post

What version of PET do you have? I have 6 - but it doesn't have the 997 series cars...

POST 3Original post

Don - can you post a link to the shifter and e-brake handle that you saw on ebay? I have both the 996 & 997 PET so I may be able to help, but I need more info so I don't give you the wrong part #.

So, the fatter one where the boot looks to be sewn to the **** is actually an upgrade? I installed an '02-04 shift **** and boot that's thinner, and more ergo feeling. Which one do you have?

POST 5Original post

You will find those part numbers in the PET Tequipment section.

Thanks Loren, that's it! I did not know it was a separate catalog Van and Tim, thanks for the help, it is very much appreciated! Andy, I have the stock shifter below (savanna beige), and want to change it to the sport shifter shown in black (I want it in savanna beige though). When I was test driving cars, I much preferred the "squattier" ****, and plan to add the B&M short shift kit next year as well. Best price I found is around $350 new, which is a bit steep for me to spend on this, but they come up on eBay occasionally for a slightly more reasonable $250 or so.

POST 7Original post

Interesting. I bought the stock shifter thinking I would like the under-stated looks. But it IS thinner. I will be changing back to my sport shifter then! Thanks for posting the pix!

No problem Andy, I always find pix to be more helpful myself. I really preferred the feel of the sport shifter, the fact that I like the looks a bit better is just a bonus! When you go back to the sport shifter, let me know how you think they compare after driving a while with the stock shift ****. The SSK will be one of my early mods next year (I am currently way over my alotted mod budget for the year!).

POST 9Original post

Funny, I mainly took off the sport shifter because I thought the fake aluminum trim around the boot was damaged - there was yellow showing through the paint. When I cleaned out my garage this weekend, I saw the old shift ****/boot, so I took it out of the bag. Turns out that yellow on the trim was just grease that came off with some cleaner! Hence the reason I am putting it back on the car ASAP!

I drove the car after swapping to the sport ****, and I can safely say the sport **** wins hands down. Less mushy feeling (due to the allen bolt that secures it to the post), fatter, nicer. Get one!! And enjoy!

POST 11Original post

I went with the shifter that Gerd at Carnewal offers for EUR 195. It has the same OEM boot matched with a Techart **** and sits much lower than the OEM shifter.

I totally agree on the sport ****. I will get one, eventually... To order a new one is at best $360 which is a bit steep, so I am trying to find one on eBay (usually at least $100 bucks cheaper so the difference goes towards the SSK), but they only come around occasionally in savanna beige. There is a great deal on a wood one with matching handbrake right now, but I really want the all leather. I like the look of that shifter, actually had something similar in my miata (shape wise at least, but not as high quality), but I preferred the taller fatter shape and eventually changed back. My hands tended to feel to "big" for the round shape.
