Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

35 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I posted this on the 993 forum in order to get an accurate idea of the build quality between some broad remarks often amde in the most popular of all questions; 996 vs 993 please feel free to contribute a PRODUCTIVE opinion here I'm very interested in what you have to say

POST 2Original post

Aww this **** again.........have you ever heard of the search function? IMHO, the 993 and the 996 are both great cars. You won't go wrong buying either car. That being said, I would say the following; The 993; - feels more "raw" for lack of a better term - has an interior that is much more reminiscent of past 911's - exhibits a nice "thunk" when you close the doors - has more of a DNA link with past 911's The 996 - feels more "modern" for lack of a better term - is faster in every way (from acceleration to top speed) - has superior handling and braking. - has a stronger/stiffer chassis - is less maintenance intensive Honestly, if you ask a guy driving a 993 he will probably prefer it and if you ask a guy driving a 996 he will probably prefer it. Furthermore you can find guys that have switched both ways (993 to 996, or 996 to 993) that are perfectly happy. Do yourself (and us) a favor by doing the following. - Close both threads (you will only generate hard feelings on both sides and it will deteriorate - once again "search function") - Get your lazy *** off the couch and go for a few test drives. That way "YOU" can decide which car is best for you. Good luck.

Ray, I dont think you got your point across, you need to be a little more direct. haha But Ray is right, all this does is create pissing matches between the two.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 4747879

Ditto EVERYTHING above. Will add this; I did the drive test having an old 911 and moving "up" - bought the 996. The feel of the 993 for me did not offer the move "up" but when I sat in the 996 and hit the pedal, I knew instantly that was the ride I needed. The wife really identified the difference, "the dash on the 996 is not in your face, there is leg room and it has a CUP HOLDER"! It may take you a while to "personalize" a 996 but once you do - you won't regret it! Do your DD, go drive a few cars - all of them from the TT to the Cab - you will REALLY see the differences. eric

If you are buying a car to DRIVE, the above makes the decision pretty easy, no? I had two 80's 944s, and am so DONE with nursing an "antique" Porsche back to health!

POST 7Original post

Quotes source post: 4747943

It's already started in the other thread. Some newb actually thinks the only reason a dealer could like the 966 is because he has inventory to move.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 4748127

Lame reasoning, some of you guys who race need to take guys like that for a ride and teach them a lesson or two. haha

Are you sick, did you come down with something? Totally not you.

POST 11Original post

If you have to ask the Question... then you do not understand the car's enough to be given an answer! Do some leg work and search learn, and if you need clarity on a subject, Like leg room??? I will be driving XXXX do you think this is Important??? Warranty, Another topic specific that will not lead to a "Pissing contest" FYI Your Question comes across like one that is trying to start a fight. I love P-Cars ALL of them...Most of them... but I bought mine for my SPECIFIC needs

POST 12Original post

Sorry Cory, the kid is sucking everythnig outta me! I don't have the energy to kick the crap out of the newbs anymore

POST 13Original post

Dell... One day you will be human again...Like in 25 years.

POST 14Original post

I used to own a 993 C4S and just bought a 996. I took my wife for her first drive this weekend and the first thing she said was, "Wow! I like this car a lot more than your old one." What does this mean? It just means the two cars are really "apples and oranges". My 996 rides better, is more comfortable , and performs better than my 993 ever did. That being said, I would love to have another 993 again some day....but only if I could keep a 996 or 997 in the garage too.

POST 15Original post

Started with a 68' 912, then a perfect 79' 911, and now a 99' 996. I think the 996 is the best Porsche I've owned so far. No doubt a newer (evolved) 997 will be even better than this. The end.

Gotta love the "hand made" argument. Evidently, the 993 was "handmade" right next to the "hand made" Boxster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1XpL...elated&search= After watching these videos (below), I'm not so sure "hand made" is a plus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQHOeXyvn5s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qeWr0GXccQ

POST 21Original post

In general the 993 forum is pretty much full of **** when it comes to this topic. The funny part is I think some of them actually believe what they are writing.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 4749632

Ray - It looks like they "hand made" the electronic sign too!

POST 24Original post

Me: 964 to 993 to 996. I can buy anything I want (within reason). I now own a 996. OT: I was at the BMW dealer last week and some ******** salesdroid was driving the **** out of a Carrera GT up & down the street. Man oh man, did it sound good! Of course, some poor S.O.B. is going to be buying a used GT garage queen that has spent more time bouncing off of the rev limiter than it has idling. Oh well. Michael

POST 25Original post

El Torrente Man that pic is f------ hilarious! No kidding brother. So long as you like the car you have what else matters. Person that started this thread and the one on the 993 forum is a troll and some fell into his trap.

POST 26Original post

Before I bought my 996, I test drove the 993 first and then the 996. When I drove the 993, I loved the acceleration and handling. I had a nice smile on my face. When I drove the 996, my grin was from ear to ear and I was sold. The 996 is faster if that is one of your considerations.

POST 27Original post

How come us 996TT guys dont get to have these pissing matches with 993TT owners. Its boring in the TT forums

POST 28Original post

Because the 993TT people know a 996TT will smoke a 993TT

POST 30Original post

Too funny. Next to the oil threads, this is always one of my favorites. Good news for me, it comes up with some degree of regularity. Are there some sort of related 997 vs 996 threads that perhaps I have missed? After all, we all know the 996 was the last of the "pure" water cooled Porsches, and the 997 is a mere shadow of the 996. All tarted up with excess weight and phoney retro styling for posers and soccer moms. Plus, I went to this one dealer, who had sold at least two Porsches, and he told me if I bought a 997, the salesman would likely come to my house in the dead of night and rape my dog.

POST 31Original post

Quotes source post: 4753336

Because the 993TT guys know thay will lose pissing matches every time because without water, they have no "ammo!"

POST 32Original post

it's all personal. do a search, many threads in past. my thoughts are 993 is slow and heavy. 996 is a giant POS. you really should buy a bmw.

POST 33Original post

993 engines are prone to grenading under track conditions, as this pic shows. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

POST 34Original post
