I think it took us about 61 hours and this was in a Toyota pickup pulling a 2-axle trailer filled with motorcycles.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all. I've been lurking here for a few months, finally purchased a '99 C2 and wanted to introduce myself. I've found a lot of helpful information on the board, so thanks to everyone for their contributions. I picked the car up in New York a few weeks back and drove it home to the SF bay area. Interstates are not my idea of fun but of course the car did great. And I've been lurking long enough to know not to post here without some photos lest I incur the wrath of a certain member. So...

POST 2Original post

Nice pictures of your new beauty. Must of been a real good shake down cruise coast to coast. I don't know if you've made the trip before but at least the summer time there are some pretty big rabbits called hairs on some hwys at night. I'm glad you made it untouched.

Welcome! Wow, what an awsome website! Your Mini project is quite the undertaking and you are doing an tremendous job with the reports. Just skimmed over the motorcycle stuff and I can tell I'll be spending a lot of time there as well. Looks like 996 is the least we have in common. I've had two of those Mini MkIs, built hot rod roadrace bikes and raced them for a decade, my current job (had since the '70s) is building high performance and custom motorcycles.

POST 13Original post

Welcome and enjoyed your website and write-ups. WOW did I here 990 miles in one day of driving? If so my back just hurts thinking about it.

POST 14Original post

Congrats and welcome. The long drive is a great way to get to know the car...

POST 16Original post

Nice ride but we need more info on the dinasour park....

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

How do I like the car? I really don't think I got any real sense of it on the Interstates. It wasn't until my friend and I took around the hills in LA and later on some of my favorite twisty roads that I got to really appreciate it. Of course it does everything really well but I have to say I'm most impressed with the way power is delivered. It is one of the most linear powerbands I think I've experienced. A real joy when pushing hard. Yeah 990 miles in a day was not exactly fun but it beats 600 on a motorcycle! In fact, I drove from D.C. to Tahoe non-stop a few years ago with a friend. We only stopped for fuel, one 4-hour nap, and 2 meals. I think it took us about 61 hours and this was in a Toyota pickup pulling a 2-axle trailer filled with motorcycles. That was NOT a fun trip on any level. By comparison, this trip was a joy! Nick49 - post up pics of your Mini's and customs. I'm sure everyone would love to see them.

POST 21Original post

Wow, what an awesome story... that must have been a killer deal to fly to the east coast and pick up the car... if you don't mind me asking.,.. how much did the car cost? i love the silver color its so much easier to maintain than the dark colors like black and blue...

POST 24Original post

Joe, congrats on the purchase! I just did the opposite. Bought my P-Car in San Diego in early February and drove back to Atlanta. I have the same feelings about interstate driving, but, all in all, it was a great experience and opportunity to get to know the car!

POST 26Original post

Nice looking 99! Cool that it has the '02 rims - I'm starting to like those more and more. And, believe it or not, I am starting to think the amber bottom section of the headlight assembly tends to make the car look more like it has classic round headlights - compared to my Lightronics unit that is all clear. Anyone else think so from the nice photos Joe took??
