You could replace the steering wheel air bag cover with a leather one.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Everyone,
I joined this forum back in 2004. I finally bought my first porsche its a 2002 4S with 23000 miles on it 6sp
. I actually bought the car on Ebay. Took it up to Porsche dealer they gave me a clean bill of health. The car it absolutley perfect. Can you guys give me any pointers?? Mods, maintance and Etc.
Looks like a nice one, congrats.
I'll just say what needs to be said right now- Lower it about an inch or so and get clear sidemarkers.
You have yourself a great car there, and it'll amaze you how capable it is.
Paul - Congrats on your C4S and Welcome to Rennlist. The car is nice looking, but Ebay pics don't count here.
We need pics from the current owner! In case you haven't figured it out yet, we LOVE pics! So, (OK guys, here it comes) come on "Newbie" post the !@#$%^&* PICS!
Sorry Paul, the other guys MAKE me do that. Consider it the "Newbie initiation."
Did you mention MODS? Well, step into my office and have a seat. Here is a list for starters:
1. Harvest the pumpkins (amber side lights) and install clear side markers on the front
2. Aluminum Gauge rings
3. Since you have the Arctic Silver (AS) "horseshoe" I would recommend an AS rear center console.
4. Aluminum Pedals
5. Painted bumperettes
6. Replace the CD holder with an upper storage bin
7. Since you have a 2002 and a 3.6L engine you already have the best mufflers to do the PSE mod (we'll tell you more about this when you are ready).
8. Paint the "top hats" silver
9. You could replace the steering wheel air bag cover with a leather one. They are available with either a gold or silver Porsche Crest.
That's probably enough for now (hee hee). Most of the stuff, especially the painted rear center console and the painted bumperettes you can get from Eric at BumberPlugs.com.
Again Welcome to Rennlist. Watch out for these other guys. They will try to spend all of your money on mods!
This was a joint venture between the Gremans (Porsche) and the Italians (Ferrari) hence the CARRERE (the last "E" is pronounced like "I" in Ferarri).
Hey, this is my 7,000th post! Woo-hoo!
Wow...that car looks spotless...fantastic find. If you don't mind disclosing, how much did you pay? It looks like the auction was stopped early b/c you bought it outside of ebay?
Yes....lots of mods...many of them very easy and not too much moola. Do NOT be discouraged by what we do to our cars...I am slowly modding here and now.
I highly suggest the Short shift kit...it's a world of difference in throwing the shifter and can be had for about 200 bucks. If you are handy, you can install it yourself, or Tim can do it for you....he certainly has award winning tips during the process
. Really great car....looks very well kept...Marlboro is a real nice place too. It is, in my opinion, the best looking 996 produced.
Best of luck.
J
p.s....Tim....Congrats!! 7K posts is a TON!!!
here's what i'd do if the world wasn't round
-full techart aerokit
-pss9
-19" work broms ps2 or oz superleggera 3s (buy mine!)
-clear bra
-B&M ssk
-20% tint
-PSE
-Full OEM CF interior including steering wheel in leather/CF
-aluminum gauge rings oem
-artic silver sport seats (buy mine as they're in as good a shape as your regular seats maybe even better)
that would be one phat 911.
Paulf,
Good luck with the new wheels and it appears to me you got a real great deal!! I bought my 02 C4S a year ago and paid more
with same options, also at 23K miles although I got an extended warranty.
Again, great looking car ( I am biased).
Demosan
OBTW, mods would be removing the amber side markers with smoked and a set of trim gauge rings for instrument panel to match your silver trim interior
components IMHO.
Great looking car! BAD economic indicator! If you perform an advanced search on Ebay for 996 C4Ss, which includes expired auctions, it is not a pretty picture. That seller must have been in a bind..........41k for a mint car with 23k miles?. The view tax from the lake must have him in a bad real estate predicament or divorce?
Nice grab!, welcome to the source, and Halloween is over, so ditch the "pumpkins". And of course, drive like the Dropkick Murphys!! Go Pats!!!!!!!!!!
Steve
Got Home early washed it so here are the pictures. I tried to upload these here but it kept giving me an error.

Unbelievable price for that car! Bravo for you! If I could find a C4S for that price I'd be selling my C2 tomorrow.
Did you say it came with a warranty but you had to pay $1,200 for it? Is it CPO, or aftermarket? If CPO the warranty follows the car, not the person who owns it.
It is an aftermarket Warranty which the dealer that I am going to honors it. When I bought car i thought it had no warranty but when the seller was going through the paper work he had forgotten that he purschased the warranty. So he called the warranty Co to cancel they were only going to give him $1200 back. So mentioned to me if I wanted it would cost me $1200 and a $40 transfer fee.
