Hmmm...while most of these vehicles may not have been damaged, you should check for flood and/or other damage during your pre-purchase inspection.

Human error can cause accident to be attributed to the wrong car (and the damaged car having a clean record)!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Excuse me if this is against the rules, I'm new here (this is my first post). Could anybody run a carfax report for me. I've been looking for a 911 for weeks (ok, months) and I finally found the right one, but now my carfax order is expired. I'd appreciate it.
thanks. I'll post some nice pics if I pick 'er up.

Actually Msweeney, it is against the rules/guidelines of the forum. Sorry can't help but would be happy to help with any areas within the rules/guidelines.

Msweeney - Welcome to Rennlist!
Yup, like Andy (apterr) said it against Rennlist rules. However, if you let us know where the car is located, maybe someone here will volunteer to take a look at it for you. Run the Carfax but make sure you get a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) done on the car. The PPI will cost you $200 - $250 but can help you avoid buying a car with some "hidden" problems which could cost you $$$ down the road.
What year, type (Coupe or Cab) are you wanting to get? Good luck with your search for a P-car!
Here's another tip: if you have a Porsche dealer perform the PPI, they can tell you the warranty repair history of the car, maybe even the name of the original purchase dealer. In my experience, I couldn't get the whole service history, but I managed to confirm which regular maintenance had been performed. Good luck.
I got the carfax - see my latest post about flood damage. :-(
I'm looking for a '99 with low mileage in the Minneapolis, Chicago area. I live right between the 2 cities. About an equal drive either way. I do plan on getting a PPI. Hopefully this car does not have damage. There isn't a flood title, so I guess I just need to be careful.
Here you go.

Low mileage! This owner drove an estimated 4,380 miles per year, lower than industry average of 15,000 miles. These vehicles can be a better value.

I know you are just trying to help the guy out but running a Carfax for someone else is against Rennlist rules. It circumvents the Carfax system and they lose revenue because of it, and Rennlist does not even want to be perceived as condoning that practice.
you
do, not you plus everyone you want to help. you have blatantly violated the rules of this board as well as those of carfax. easiest way to lose good grace around here and potentially lose your "unlimited" carfax membership when they are notified.
it still amazes me that some of y'all do not see the illegality of what you are doing.
Sorry to hijack this, but since you all seem to have carfax knowledge.
Does anyone know how reliable carfax reports are - not in terms of missing things - but in terms or reporting wrong info.
I'm looking at a vehicle that comes up with detail on an accident (pillar damage). The dealer emphatically denies the car has been in an accident and insists that carfax is simply wrong.
Thoughts/coments ?
Thanks
The Carfax report COULD be wrong. What model year is the car? One way to test the dealer's "emphatic denial" is to ask them to CPO the car. If they are not willing to CPO it, then walk away.
You could also try to track down the previous owner who had it at the time of the reported damage.
Carfax misses things all the time. Carfax is useful to do an initial inquiry to see if you want to pursue a car. You should always perform due diligence on any car.
I have heard of cases where Carfax showed damage had occurred and it really hadn't. Human error can cause accident to be attributed to the wrong car (and the damaged car having a clean record)!
Randy - long time no see - what's the car that you're looking at?
One thing to bear in mind is that if the carfax is wrong and cannot be corrected, then it will show up when you come to sell the car and scare away buyers.
Hey Wayne - I've been watching on occasion but life got complicated this summer - all is good -you ?
We'll have to speak off line or by PM since I may inflame by telling you what I'm looking at -
My '99 C2 is up for sale locally - my brother in law has it today actually to see if he's really interested.
A 997 or 996 turbo is in the offing, BUT I have become fascinated with a certain Italian GT - she makes my heart go pitter patter.
You are directly on point that even of the carfax report is wrong, it's going to affect resale and I'm not interested in going through the effort to have it corrected - assuming its wrong. I can't have it CPO'd since its with an independent.
I think carfax should have a service to look into and rectify issues with their accurateness once brought to their attention - i.e., verify the negative or remove it.
Later - I may post about a CEL issue I'm having and would like forum help diagnosing - I'll pull the codes later today.
Any new flings coming up - would love to get one more in before she's gone.
Drop me a note and let me know what you've been up to and the car that you're looking at. I know the deal with busy and complicated - sounds like the story of most lives nowadays.
I hope to hear that you'll be sticking with Porsche and that we'll be able to have you along to drives in the futures... it makes me sad to hear that you're considering joining the dark side. You like to drive and buying an Italian garage queen just doesn't sound right.
The drives are done for this season, but I'll get another one going in the Spring - hopefully you'll be able to join us. Actually I'm looking at the window right now and wanting to take the car out to blow off the cobwebs.
Ramp Carfax is, indeed, known to be wrong, I had an issue when I bought my car and they reported incorrect mileage for emission testing, and it was almost a deal breaker until PO had verifiable receipts that showed progression of true mileage. Carfax was emailed but they never bothered to fix it.
I will never own a garage queen!!!!!!!!!! I may buy one, but she will be instantly converted to a driver - even a pretty Italian - they are made to be driven - the only weather I will not bring such vehicles out in is major storms - just not fun - or snow. Otherwise, I drive, regardless of temp.
IFFFF, I go Italian, (1) I would still join your runs (if invited and welcomed) and (2) I would still be in the market for a less expensive, possibly air cooled, 911.
I'll keep you posted and guessing for the moment !
Glad to hear it!
You just don't seem like the typical Italian owner - the majority of those cars sit around rather than being driven.
As for joining us on drives - you're always welcome to run with us.
To use an old phrase..... "don't get me started!"
I have had TWO cars misrepresented by CarFax....... INCLUDING the one I have NOW!!
I wrote CF to have it corrected and they just blew me off - I still have the email from them. Tried again on their site (at the bottom something about being able to make comments if you know something about this car....) and again blew me off. My comments just disappeared!
I don't think CF is worth the paper it is printed on or in this case, the time it takes to type in the VIN...........................!
