Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, I removed the throttle body, MAF, and ICV and began to clean them. (It took me awhile because I had to buy a star socket thingy) The throttle body was rather clean. MAF appears fine, the Idle control valve however had alot of that black stuff. I let it soak in carb cleaner overnight and I began cleaning it with q-tips. I noticed that the metal sliding mechanism on one side opens wider but it does not close completely. I can force it to close with the q-tip. My question is: Does this metal slider close 100% or is suppose to stop around 80% by itself? Second question is how should I try to clean the inside of unit? I'm sure there is more crap in there but its impossible to get anything inside of unit? Thanks

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thought a pic may help Oh and incidentally I noticed this Bosch unit was not made in Germany but in China???

POST 3Original post

Yes, the windows should be open a little. This is because you must have air passing into the throttlebody when you are off the pedal. The amount it is open determines your idle speed. Spraying it liberally with carb cleaner shoud ensure that it is as clean as it can get.
