Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Getting ready to fly up to Detroit with my son this Saturday to pick up my 2nd Cabriolet (1st one was a 1987 which I sold 7 years ago, before that 944 turbo, before that 944) and drive it back to Greenville, SC. 50K miles, tip, nav, carbon fiber, bone stock. Plan is to change out the palm green interior to grey or black in the near future. Green just isn't my color. Can anyone tell me if the wheels are stock? I haven't seen them on any other 996's. The current owner doesn't have a Navigation disc for the SE. Where does one find one at a descent price? Got to run. Let the newbie abuse begin!

POST 2Original post

Congrats on the new car and welcome back to the fold. The car looks familiar - I'm pretty sure that we had a discussion about it within the last couple of months.

POST 4Original post

Congrats and welcome back. You easily side stepped most of the newbie abuse by posting pics! I really like the sport design wheels on a black cab. I do not know much about the nav discs, but I have seen some on eBay. There have been several discussions on that interior color here, I think I would change it as well. Best of luck, and you will have to post pics of the interior transformation. From what city near Detroit are you picking up the car?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the info on the wheels. I was thinking they were a stock option. Green.......worth a discussion or two. I have a set of NEW black leather seats from a 996 I bought 4 years ago. I tried to put them in a Shelby Cobra replica, but they didn't work out. Needless to say I kept them safely pigeon holed in a corner of my garage. I'm just not sure I want a black interior. It gets verrrry warm here in the summer! The current owner is picking us up at the Detroit airport. I believe he actually lives closer to Flint.

POST 6Original post

Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the 996. Nice looking cab (at least from the outside ). I don't mean that maliciously, just having a little fun. Thanks for posting the pics. A Gray interior would look good in your car, especially with the deviating black carpet. . However, since you already have the black seats and the black dash, it might be wise to go with a black interior. Become a member here (costs $18 for 1 year and $32 for two years) and you can list the new black 996 seats for sale and possibly find a Gray interior to use. If you check out parts from wrecked cars, be very wary of (a.k.a. stay away from) LA Dismantlers. They do not have a good reputation on this forum. I hope you and your son have a great time driving back to SC!

POST 7Original post

Wow, I love cabs, the interior is unique for sure! Welcome to the Renn, and Congrats!!! Nice Pics!

POST 8Original post

Unique is an understatement!

POST 9Original post

Welcome and enjoy it with your son, but yes that interior is something else, IMHO I would have passed this car up to find one with an interior colour that I liked.

POST 10Original post

nice. sounds like replacing the green is going to be expensive.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 4682599

isn't there a 996 with light color interior just "flipped" a few weeks ago? could be fun to get those nice interior stuff. welcome to rennlist, good luck on the new 996!

POST 13Original post

I like "oddball" colors. Maybe that'sjust me!

POST 14Original post

Congratulations on the car. I have the same interior color (nephrite green w/ silver ext.) in my Boxster, and it was the reason I bought it over the others I looked at. I don't have the deviated carpet or the green steering wheel, and I've never seen a two-toned dash before, but it looks good. If you've only seen this color in photos you might be pleasantly surprised when you see it in person. It always looks much brighter in photos.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I actually looked at local black cab with a green interior......hard to believe there that many out there. Aron's observation is correct; the green is more sublte in person. I wanted the challenge of the color change, yet won't mind living with the green while the metamorphosis takes place. I like tinkering with things. Based on what I have seen the cost of the change will be more than offset by the value when it is complete.....meaning I think I bought the car very well. Without sarcasm, what do you guys think the car is worth as is and also with a more conservative color interior?

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 4686665

I'd say 28-30K tops for the car in its current condition. Also, changing the interior to black will probably not have much of an effect on the value (maybe 1-2K?). A lot of people (especially first time Porsche buyers) just don't pay very much attention to the interior color (unless it is a yellow/red McDonalds car ).

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 4686706

Really? I didn't want a tan color because in my opinion it shows dirt faster and shows wear and tear more than a black interior.

POST 18Original post

painfully green...was that the interior description Porsche gave to this combination?? You don't have to exchange door panels and dashboard.....you can paint them.....see it all the time on Unique Whips and other car shows....the seats is another story....but for about 1500 bucks you got that "covered" (ebay)..on ebay you can buy interior carpeting...or whatever you call it (I am not talking about floor mats). It is a great mod car......it is a black cap with nice rims.....33K minus 5K for wrong interior...and come on a lot of 1st time buyers don't pay attention to the interior color???!?! Ofcourse they do when the color is that in your face!!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 4687578, 4686706

I will probably go with a black interior since I already have a perfect pair of black front seats. I planned to spray some parts and get others like the steering wheel and rear seats recovered. Paid $26k for it.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 4688465

You did well on the price. There was a guy here on the 996 Forum that was doing the gauge "hump" in leather. His pics looked really good and if I recall, his prices were very reasonable. Maybe he could also do the door air bag covers, since they are also in leather. I'll do a search to see if I can and find his contact info for you. EDIT: OK, I found the link. He is a Rennlist Site Sponsor too. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...hlight=leather Here is another link which may be helpful to you in determining what is and is not leather. It is from the 2003 order guide, but could still be helpful. http://www.geocities.com/porsche_interior/ I would love the see the progress you make on this color conversion.

Welcome to RennList --- I have seen three cars with that green for sale. Good luck with your swap -- after living with it for a while you may like the color. If you are down this way ---Myrtle Beach --stop and say hello. Chuck 951 996 Cab - Artic Silver 951 - Stone Met 951- Guards Red

POST 23Original post

I would say you did great on price and I’m sure the color was a big reason. As others have said, if you decide to change the color you are already halfway there with your black carpet, dash and extra seats. I’d recommend try dying all the remaining green leather pieces black, or what ever color you want. You could have a pro do it or you can DIY w/ a product from Color plus http://www.colorplus.com/ , Leathertique or many others. I dyed my 3-spoke steering wheel w/ the Color Plus over a year ago and there has been no ware to the dyed surface. My limited experience with the dyes is that they work better and seem more “natural” on the hard leather surfaces like the door panels compared to the more flexible areas like a shift boot. When I did my steering wheel I also dyed my shift boot and it hasn’t held up so well. Personally, I would be hesitant to do a DIY dye job on my seats. I’d be concerned that they might not feel soft like real leather when finished. Others have done their interiors, either as a repair or as an entire color change and claimed to have had great results. Search the 928 and 964 boards (Leather Seat Restoration) for some examples. And if you don’t like the dyed look you can always sell/trade/swap your dyed pieces for the color you want, as you will probably find more takers for dyed black parts that original green ones. Not that I want to lose a “Green Brother”.

Thanks for the info "Green Brother." Did you see Anna Kornakova's (spelling?) car on eBay a few weeks ago. That was GREEN!! I will definately check into the DIY products. If they don't work I wouldn't have lost much.

2nd Cabrio, Very nice looking Cab. I recently visited a Porsche used parts store north of Toronto. "Nineapart" They might be able to give you a complete interior for one price vs parting the interior piece by piece. Check them out on the web. It might be www.nineapart.com or something similar. if not suggest you google used porsche parts Ontario. I am PM'ing you as well. Best wishes, Andy T Buffalo/Niagara Falls

2nd Cabrio, I was on the Boxster/S forum and saw a thread about someone wanting to sell the entire interior. The interior is red. Don't know if you would be interested but thought you might want to check it out. Andy T
