I have no issue with the particular spot she chose, it was the fact that she did not park within it, and didn't bother to look when she opened her door.
Leading evidence: 'fact' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'fact' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace 4 casette storage bin' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I just replaced my 4 casette storage bin with a regular one.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Took last Friday off work to take my wife and car out for the day on a relaxing drive.
Where we live, I do not see many P-cars, and even fewer 996's (SE Michigan, motor city, you get the idea). I have seen only 3 996 cabs all year, all silver, could have even been the same car for all I know. Anyway, we stopped for lunch, and when we pulled into the parking lot, I saw the identical color combo on a (slightly newer) 996!
Note the idiot in the suv that had to park right next to the other car and how empty the lot was.
I probably am the only person who thinks this is cool, but if you know this area, it's pretty surprising - even if it is an awesome color combo.
Unless the SUV parked excessively close or did damage your car, I wouldn't be so quick to judge him as an idiot. If I see a Porsche parked where it is a likely victim of door dings, I park my SUV next to it to protect it. (I will never ding a door). I've had others with SUVs, trucks, or even huge American boat-cars do the same for me. The SUV owner may have a Porsche in the garage.
I didn't judge him, actually it was a her. I was near when she pulled up, and watched her park on/over the line. She had to struggle to get out of her vehicle as she was driving with a cake on her lap. She opened her door without looking, but from my angle I could not see if she actually hit anything ( it wasn't my car she parked next to, so I did not go squeeze in and look). She was so oblivious that she pulled in right when I was taking a picture. She... is an idiot, and the only reason I made that comment is because I was there.
I have two suv's, and always respect others vehicles, but this was not even close to that case.
No, I thought that may have been the reason also, but there were many, at least half a dozen, spots closer to where she walked.

Cool pic Don, thanks for sharing. BTW, both you and the other owner have great taste in cars and color choices. LOL
Seeing your car next to the one with clear side markers only validates my opinion that the pumpkin look works on Guards Red 996s. Granted, I like the looks of clears on other colors but against the Guards Red I prefer the amber lights, which is why I have not changed mine.
I always liked the pumpkins with the guards red, until I actually saw the comparison side by side. This one has already been added to the mod list! (which is beginning to become quite long).
Now for the wheels, I really like the 02 5 spokes, but will have to find a money tree before I can justify this change...
Nice looking red cab! Twins!
On the parking...it's pretty annoying.... I try to park where there are large number of empty spots and away from all the other cars and no matter how far away I park, there is always someone parked next to me when I come out of the store. It's almost like they do it on purpose...
I think people may think they have to park next to a car - or they get confused and think THEY would be rude by parking in the middle of an empty isle, etc? Idiots, I agree!
This is like the battle of the rims - twists, vs. Carreras. I think the twists win - look how they flow with the lines of the car!!
I had a girlfriend who used to lay here door against other cars on purpose.
I used to tell her not to do it and would lead into fights. She wouldnt listen that when you get out, the door moves up and down scratching the paint.
Yes, mine is a 2000 cab, and the rims are 18's. The other car, I believe, is an 02 from what I could tell (I never met the owner).
Like I mentioned earlier, I do not see many 996s here, but it is great to see what different options look like with the same color combo. I guess I lack imagination, because my opinion can change once I can see something in person - or maybe it's just a guy thing
I do love the 5 spokes, but after seeing them on my color, I do like my twists a hair better. I think the 5's would look better on a darker color, esp if the caliper color stood out - but like I said, I really need to see it, maybe I need help...
I understand...I did a lot of business with GM 10-15 years ago. They hated when someone parked a non-US made car in their vsitor lots (disrespectful). I did know one or two GM'rs who owned German made cars and kept them under cover in their garage(s).
Anyway...nice cab, cool pic

I like the look of the amber lights with my yellow paint so I upgrade. To each there own.
Thanks... and I work at Chrysler! The tech center is not too bad, I drive my car occasionally, but I would never take it to a plant, especially in the city.
Don,
What a coincidence!..Smart move.
I just replaced my 4 casette storage bin with a regular one. Looks great and gives me much needed storage space. Just enough room for glasses, ipod and recharger.
Any difficulty with your top going up and down slowly?
Andy T
It would take a special kind of Porsche owner to admit to also owning what appears to be an Escalade. <gag>
I'd apologize to the Escalade owners in here, but they're probably out beating their women or buying more gold chains.
My top works great (it's also brand new), there is a diy on renntech which may help with your top moving slowly:

How do you know that the SUV wasn't in the lot first and the intelligent p-car driver parked close, but not too close to protect the car OR maybe that is his/her spouses car and are meeting for lunch...
