Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use 1 1/2 or so' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use 1 1/2 or so' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everybody,
I'm planning to do the hack to my cans but I'm not sure which one I have. I bought them on ebay but they look like half mki and half mkii (look original not modified). Does someone know what is the modification that I have to do?
I did a search and there are many posts talking about but I haven't seen any like mine.
-MKII mod (3.6) - from bypass to outlet
-MKI mod (3.4) - between the inlet and outlet
Here the photo...
Thanks in advance,
Carles
Until about a year or so ago, I was under the impression that all cans with the accordion outlet pipes were 3.6 MK II cans. However, I found out that is not necessarily true.
The muffler in your pic has a domed cap on the left side, which normally is found on the 3.4 mufflers, while 3.6 mufflers have a recessed cap. In more technical terms, 3.4 cans have an "outie" belly button and 3.6 cans have an "innie" belly button.
So you are correct, your mufflers seem to be a combination of MK I and MK II cans. I have done the MK II mod on both the 3.4 and 3.6 mufflers, and the 3.6 cans sounded much better than the 3.4 mufflers with the MK II mod.
I would call a dealer parts department and see if they can tell you which version they are based upon the part number. That may be the only way you can really determine which mos, MK I or MK II you should do to your mufflers.
Let us know what you find out.
Oh yeah, Welcome to Rennlist and don't forget to post pics of your car soon!
The cans are 3.4 no matter what pipe is connected to it. They must be from a TIP (auto) MKI
If you do a crosspipe/ J-pipe, make it a BIG ONE and you should be fine. Don't use 3/4" or 1" - use 1 1/2 or so.
Good luck and post pics, welcome
You don't understand...as a new member you must post pictures of your ride sooner rather than later unless you want to suffer the wrath of the picture police...it isn't pretty.
Wow, I already checking if the police is knocking my door...
In my first post I put some pictures(at the spanish forum is the same rule) and part of my history. You can check it out in here...
