Suggestion

You'll have to get under there and see where the leak is coming from, but it could be the crush washer wasn't replaced on the drain plug or the o-ring was torn on the filter cartridge, etc.

I don't see how an oil change, unless drastically overfilled, could have anything to do with an RMS leak.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So here is the deal! My brother in laws best friend owns an oil shop, so we always take our cars there. For my P car I buy the oil and the filters and have him just change it there, because he has a lift etc!!! Ever since my oil was changed about a week ago, it has been leaking oil. Havent checked from where yet as I just noticed last night and this morning! Could an oil change cause a RMS to begin to leak (I am scared)! Or could the guys have fu<%ed up on the oil change?

POST 2Original post

I don't see how an oil change, unless drastically overfilled, could have anything to do with an RMS leak. You'll have to get under there and see where the leak is coming from, but it could be the crush washer wasn't replaced on the drain plug or the o-ring was torn on the filter cartridge, etc.

POST 4Original post

An indy once overfilled my car slightly with oil, so I was loosing some drops via the oil-filter cap which is also the place to remove the excess oil (take the cap of and empty it until it doesn't fill up anymore).

POST 5Original post

Yup! If leaking at the plug: Plugs not tight or crush washer's broken. If leaking at the filter, canister's loose or filter's not installed properly or rubber ring gasket's not on properly or broken. Should be easy to correct. Worse case, redo the job... I'll bet if you take it back to the guy, he'll have it fixed in 10 minutes

POST 6Original post

You can see the drain plug by just looking underneath the rear of the car, it is right there.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys, Im going to crawl under before I leave my office, I talked to him and he said just bring it down and we'd make it right! Just frustrating as I made sure I had brand new crush rings and rubber gasket!

POST 8Original post

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Agreed, but its a family friend and he has a fu<%in shop with all the tools! WTF FTW!

POST 11Original post

Mine leaked after the last oil change at the dealer. It turned out it was just that the mechanic was sloppy and left a mess of oil around the filter canister. I powerwashed the underside clean and the mystery drip never reappeared.
