I just installed new battery on the weekend in my 03, 996 CAB...everything seem to be fine until I tried opening my trunk with the key remote ...it won't open, and now I just noticed that I can't lock/unlock the car using the key remote as well...

Do I have to do something to reset the system, or do I have to bring it into the dealer to get them to reset the system....I did look over the manual but they don't address that problem.

HAve you tried the other key? Does it work?
Try to reset the key. Remove the battery in the key fob and reinstall the battery upside down (reverse polarity) for about 10 seconds. Remove the battery from the key fob and reinstall it correctly again. See if this works.
You may have to put the key in the door lock and lock/unlock the car. This may reactivate the key. I know that if you lock the car and leave it for more than 2 days (I think) the car automatically disconnects the key from the lock/unlock mode to protect the battery. Manually using the key reactivates it.
Thanks guys, I will anything at this point...don't want to visit the Stealer,if I don't have to...
p.s. everything works manually...but I DON"T WANT THAT...way to much work!!!!!

Hey....good news.....I went thru the entire process one more time before driving out to the Porsche dealership....One of the procedures called for me to put the key in the lock....locked/unlocked it and immediately stuck the key in the ignition and turned it on before ten seconds elapsed.....then took the key out and closed the door and heard a "click".
I couldn't believe it....the remote started working. Thanks to all the folks for all the suggestions. One of them just saved me $150. Sure glad it started working kuz my back is sore from practicing that bend over and grab your ankles process.
Tim: They'll be here next wednesday...I looked at the db ratings that are posted on the Europipe website and it's really not that much louder than the stock ones....one or two db at certain rpms....a little more at others. Hope I'm not disappointed.
